Real Dilemma !!!
"Why do Ghanaian businesses expect growing suppliers to act like banks?" 🏦📦
A few months ago, I was caught in a brutal dilemma.
We had a growing hospitality brand reach out to us for a massive order of custom-branded takeaway packaging. They were thrilled with our quality, loved our finishing, and were ready to go.
Then came the terms:
“We will pay you 40 days AFTER delivery.”
When I politely requested a 50% deposit to secure the raw materials for production, the response was swift:
“If you can’t give us 40 days credit, we can’t do business.”
It stopped me in my tracks.
As a growing packaging company in Ghana, I asked myself: Where do they expect us to find the money for raw materials?😢
In the hospitality industry, suppliers are constantly used as interest-free banks. Larger factories can absorb those 40-day delays because they have massive cash reserves. But for rising, quality-focused businesses, that cycle drains cash flow and threatens growth.
I knew we had to break the cycle—not just for us, but for our clients’ peace of mind.
So, we stopped relying on traditional, rigid order models and changed how we do business in Ghana:
1️⃣ The Packaging Subscription Model: Instead of forcing clients to dump huge amounts of cash into 10,000 boxes sitting in a cramped kitchen, we break orders into flexible, bi-weekly or monthly deliveries. You pay as you receive, keeping your cash flow healthy and your packaging fresh.
2️⃣ Upfront Custom Tooling Protection: We keep unit costs flexible while securing design and print-plate fees upfront, ensuring both parties are fully invested in building a premium brand asset.
3️⃣ Transparent Value Pricing: We reward clients who value quick turnarounds with early-settlement savings, aligning our cash flow with their operational success.
To every hospitality owner, restaurant manager, and food entrepreneur in Ghana: Your packaging isn't just a container—it’s your customer's first impression.
When you partner with a supplier who manages cash flow smart, you aren't just buying boxes; you're securing a reliable, consistent supply chain that never runs dry right before your peak dinner rush.
Let’s change the culture together—one smart order at a time. 🇬🇭✨
