Medieval contactless payment. Just 900 years ahead of its time.
The holed stone at Kilmalkedar Church is known as the Contract Stone. Traditionally, agreements were said to be sealed by two people placing their fingers through the hole and touching them together — a kind of medieval handshake carved in stone.
It’s one of the small details at Kilmalkedar that brings the history of the site to life.

One of today's highlights was exploring the incredible Aillwee Cave in the heart of the Burren.

Hidden beneath the limestone landscape for thousands of years, this fascinating cave system is filled with ancient rock formations, underground waterfalls and stories stretching back to the Ice Age. Walking through its vast chambers is a reminder of the remarkable forces that shaped Ireland long before recorded history.

It's always a pleasure sharing places like this with our guests, combining spectacular scenery, history and unforgettable experiences along the way.

If you're planning to discover the west of Ireland, I'd be delighted to help you explore some of its most remarkable locations in comfort and at your own pace.
