Gurdwara Chevin Patshahi (Thara Sahib) offers a stunning winter view in the snowy hills of Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. This historic Sikh shrine, also called Gurdwara Sri Thara Sahib Singhpura or Chhevin Patshahi Kalampura, commemorates Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s visit around 1620.
Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji visited after Srinagar, meeting Muslim saint Bahlor Shah; he struck the ground with his spear to create a sweet water well still in use today. Accompanied by Emperor Jahangir at times, Guru Ji sat on a stone takht offered by locals, held discussions, and planted a chinar tree, blessing that visitors’ wishes would be fulfilled as the tree grows. Initially just a platform (thara), the current domed building with verandah was built in the 1930s by Bhai Vir Singh, with additions in the 1980s.
