Today is World Mental Health Day
The hospitality industry can be quite challenging and demanding. There are long shifts, long weekends, working late into the evening and back in early the next morning, working while everyone else is out enjoying themselves, trying to work your holiday plans around the business needs. It can be stressful.
We are also the ones who are always seeing to be smiling, the ones who are laughing, chatting and ensuring that everyone else is looked after, sometimes pretending that we are ok ourselves so as not to upset anyone or to make others feel uncomfortable. We want our guests to enjoy their time and we go out of our way to ensure this. We are masters at masking our own real feelings.
However, sometimes we need to take a step back and look after ourselves. You need to look after yourself !
Take a moment today to reflect upon your own mental health, how are you doing, how are you feeling. If you are struggling, depressed or stressed in any way, reach out to talk, you have colleagues who are there for you and will listen, isn't that what we are good at, helping and listening.
Remember, you're your own guest who you have to look after first.
