BoxUp comes to Fairlane Park, Dungarvan!
Waterford Sports Partnership and Waterford City and County Council are delighted to bring a new and innovative free equipment sharing solution to Fairlane Park, Dungarvan. The 6-unit BoxUp locker, which was funded through the Participation Nation and Amuigh Faoin Speir Project was installed today and is now freely available for the public to use.
Introducing BoxUp to Fairlane Park could not have happened without the valuable support of Waterford City & County Council staff in the installation of this 6-locker unit. A big thank you to Jimmy and John and team for all their work to successfully install the unit.
The locker, which is solar powered, contains a variety of equipment based on the facilities and amenities in Fairlane Park. The equipment includes a skateboard and helmet, balance bike and helmet, gym equipment, frisbees, inclusive games and skipping ropes. All equipment can be easily accessed through the use of a free app. Just download the free BoxUp app and create an account using photo ID to access the equipment!
A significant planting project consisting of hedging and trees also took place within Fairlane Park as part of this project to add to the overall biodiversity of the park.
The Participation Nation and Amuigh Faoin Speir Project funding was granted by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and was administered to Waterford Sports Partnership via Sport Ireland at the end of 2024. The aim of the project is to promote outdoor activities and enhance biodiversity in local environments.
An official launch of the project will happen at a later date.
