This week took us all the way to Northern Ireland for a pre-purchase engine inspection, another of the services we offer.

Visual check, computer diagnostic check for faults and to read run history, test-run the engines, checked the electrical connections and steering system... there's a lot to check!

Full class yesterday in Greystones Sailing Club for a Basic Marine Diesel Engine Course.

As usual, we went through some theory in the class, before heading outside to the engine to see it for real.

There was even the chance to get some diagnosis and repair on the go, as our beloved training engine had a small leak! Oops!

Our first time in the club, it won't be the last!

BASIC MARINE DIESEL ENGINE COURSE - new dates available!

- Friday 8th May - 9:00-17:00 (includes breaks for coffee and lunch)
- Location: Howth Yacht Club, Howth.
- Open to club members and general public

- Sunday 10th May - 9:00-17:00 (includes breaks for coffee and lunch)
- Location: Greystones Sailing Club
- Open to club members and general public

As always, no previous knowledge needed, the courses are accessible for everyone.

What will we learn? First, we will have an introduction to how your engine works, the main components and how they interact with each other.
We will see the best practice on how to service and maintain your engine, along with suggestions on spares and tools to be kept onboard. As well as emergency repair procedures.

The course alternates between a presentation on screen and looking at the systems in person on the "working" Yanmar powered training rig.

There's also enough time for questions and talking about the particulars of your boat.

The courses can be booked individually, but also organised in sailing clubs, marinas, training schools, etc.

With the new sailing season getting closer, it's time to start thinking about upgrading some practical skills to use in your boat, or even learning new ones.
We offer the following marine-specific courses for boat users:
- Diesel Engine (Understanding of your engine, maintenance, basic problem-solving...)
- Outboard Engine (Understanding of your engine, maintenance, basic problem-solving...)
- Boat Electrics (Basic knowledge, toolbox (what to have onboard and how to use it), common failures...)
No previous knowledge needed! All our courses are suitable for both beginners and more experienced sailors. They combine presentation with hands-on practical demonstrations.
