A great site in the Golan Heights, Just got better. This Synagogue, was destroyed in the the 749 C.E, Discovered in the early 19th Century by Sr. Laurence Oliphant, Excavated in 2003 C.E by Chaim Ben David and finally opened to the public this past summer. The site now has a beautiful visitors center and fully wheelchair accessible. A visit to the site goes great with an Off Road Golan Tour or a more conventional tour of other local historical sites. The highlight of the site is its magnificent Aron Kodesh (Synagogue element for the storage of the Torah scrolls).

Once again shocked by how little we really know. This is where the Sanhedrin was last known to have officially reside. Most of us would pass by on the way into Tiberias and miss it completely. The Sanhedrin moved to Tiberias in 270 C.E. The Roman Emperor Theodosius is known to have disbanded the Sanhedrin and confiscated their properties in the year 358 C.E.
