12 August 2026 marks an important change for packaging in the European Union.

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is now applicable, introducing a more harmonised framework around packaging and packaging waste.
Among its wider objectives are recyclability, packaging waste reduction and greater circularity. Importantly, several detailed requirements and implementation timelines extend beyond 2026 — so this is a transition, not a single-date compliance exercise.
