An Unforgettable Journey: Olympic National Park
We got down at Port Angeles Fairchild airport by the early morning flight. Then It took an hour to book a car from the airport. Our journey was to start with Olympic National Park. We drove down along US101 to National park centre.
We reached at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center in an hour. The centre opens at 9 am. We had some time to have our breakfast. We got a nice breakfast restaurant on Marine Drive “The Empossible Eden Café” near the Port Angeles Boat Yard. In this early morning there’s already a crowd.
Olympic National Park has four distinct but widely diversified ecological zones: the high glaciated Olympic Mountains with ancient glaciers that form exceptionally below an elevation of 2000 meters and occur below 1000 meters, the subalpine forests and meadows in the Hurricane Ridge, temperate Hoh rainforests and rugged, sandy beaches at the Pacific. We will cover all those four in next three days.
From the parks visitors centre we Started to explore the Hall of Mosses Trail. The entire trail is covered by the green moss like a carpet. The views around with towering trees draped in emerald-green moss and the flowing HOH river is awesome.
Majestic Mountains and Alpine Beauty
Next morning began our day with a scenic drive to Hurricane Ridge road. As we were ascending, mesmerised by sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. There were numerous hiking trails that offer the breathtaking panoramic vistas.
As the day draws to a close, we made our way to Sol Duc Hot Springs for a well-deserved soak in the natural hot mineral pools.
Coastal Delights
After two consecutive days in the forest trails now we headed west to the Pacific Coastline and visit Rialto Beach. It is adjacent to the Mora campground, very near to Quillayute river mouth. Here the rugged beauty of the Olympic Peninsula forest meets the vastness of the blue ocean.
On the fourth day we drove down to Lake Crescent, a crystal-clear glacial lake surrounded by lush forests.
