The Aashi Project

The Aashi Project Aashi (smile) is an ACTS educational programme for under-privileged children. We believe this will open doors to a world of opportunities through education

We believe this will open doors to a world of opportunities through education. In 2013, we were approached by a nearby orphanage to admit their children in Nirmala Vidyalaya, one of our schools in Bangalore. Their previous school had closed down and they desperately needed a new school. We were moved and didn't hesitate. Soon, 83 students joined us. They blossomed! But sadly, the orphanage found t

hemselves struggling for finances and considered pulling these precious orphans out of our school. We realised that if that happened, these dear children would not receive quality education. As a result, The Aashi Project was born. The minimum cost of educating one child for an academic year, including their tuition fee, textbooks and notebooks, uniform, and transportation is Rs 12,000 (INR). This is a tremendous opportunity for you to bring smiles and build futures for children in India. If you want to help, write to [email protected]

The Bangalore One Act Theatre Festival (BOAT) is Bangalore’s only short play festival. The festival aims to uncover new talent from various schools across Bangalore and give opportunities to perform to a wider audience. This fantastic three-month engagement with Nirmala Vidyalaya, had BOAT theatre mentors and practitioners come to the school and work with the school children of Std 7, 8 and 9, exposing them to what theatre can do in education, and also to develop skills in the children and bring out their unique personalities and talents.

The programme culminated in a competitive performance designed and executed by the children at the Alliance Francaise and Nirmala Vidyalaya won the Best Ensemble Winner. We are proud of our children who were so comfortable on stage and who had the audience engaged.

Thank you, Anita Mithra, for giving our school this wonderful opportunity!

Today our schools are concentrating on delivering academic achievement to the students. Less concentration is given to their personal behaviour. The attitude of today's young generation made me think twice that the implementation of value and moral education is a must for the youth. Even the behaviour of the youth towards the elders in discourteous ways is really worrisome. From the child hood on wards parents & teachers should give proper guidance. All the schools should implement suitable programmes to make the students aware about the importance of value education from the prior stages of development. Let use hope for a good world where we give equal importance to the co-human beings.

Discipline in school life is very important for students. We cannot be well educated without discipline.

In school education, discipline is a set of rules and regulations that remind us of the proper code of behaviour.

In school life, students have a tender mind that does not know what is right or wrong. Students need constant guidance and supervision from their teachers.

Discipline helps children in the following ways:
1.Staying motivated. If one does not stay disciplined, it is hard to stay motivated in their studies.
2.Scheduling. Good discipline is essential in order to make sure that both the teachers and students complete all of the study material, assignments, etc.
3.Setting a good example to other. When one student is discipline in his life in school, he shows the other students the positive impact it has on their grades, motivating them to apply discipline in their life in school.

It’s really important to eat right and stay active, especially in school. The active part is easy, because as children, they have a lot of energy to move around and play indoors and outdoors. But eating right is tough.
Here are a few tips on how to keep our children healthy:

1. Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, since we’ve been fasting for about 6-8 hours. A good night’s sleep followed by food in the morning helps your child to stay active and concentrate at school.

2. School lunches. It is tough to fit in making a good packed lunch in the middle of our hectic lives, but it goes a long way. It is a great way for your child to learn about healthy food and to help with preparation.

3. Foods to limit. Highly processed, sugary, fatty and salty foods should only make up a very small part of your child’s diet.

4. Treats and peer pressure. Peer pressure to eat particular ‘trendy’ foods at this age is strong. Let your child eat these kinds of foods occasionally, such as at parties, special events or when the rest of the family enjoys them. It’s best to limit the amount of money children are given to spend at school or on the way home.

Green Schools :

Children are the key to the future, and our schools have the opportunity to educate and build up awareness among them. Here are a few ways in which we can keep our schools green.

Make recycling bins easily accessible. To avoid plastic bottles and other miscellaneous recyclables sitting in a landfill, place recycling bins next to trash cans and in strategic places throughout the campus.

Start community clean ups. We all can agree that it’s hard for one person or one school to keep the place green and sustainable. But what would make it so much easier is to involve the whole community.
Guaranteed it’ll be a lot of work, but so worth it once finished.

Plant a school garden. Gardening is not only an amazing learning tool and group activity, but it also gives our children the much needed outdoor time that everyone needs! There’s really no reason for our schools NOT to have a school garden!

Find alternative ways to produce energy. This might be a tough one, since we all can’t have wind or water energy powered schools. But our schools CAN have solar panels, which is a really good start!
