This week on Trade Winds Weekly, the maritime landscape is witnessing significant developments across defence, shipbuilding, trade and coastal resilience.

From India’s ₹661.50 crore investment in naval fire control systems and a $6.6 billion boost to US shipbuilding, to the landmark movement of methanol from Assam to Dhaka, the tides are turning towards greater capability and connectivity.

Meanwhile, the safe rescue of 23 Indian seafarers, coastal protection initiatives along the Uppada-Kakinada coastline and a tragic incident near Trapaj highlight the human stories shaping the sector.

Security concerns also remain in focus as authorities investigate an alleged espionage case in Andhra Pradesh.

Swipe through for this week’s highlights, and stay tuned for more stories shaping the maritime world.

A lookback at a celebration filled with warmth, smiles and meaningful moments. ❤️

On the occasion of our Chairman’s birthday, Mr. Saifuddin Hajee, our team organised a special visit to Maratha Foundation Orphanage, Virar, spending the day sharing moments of joy and togetherness.

A meaningful way to celebrate a special occasion while embracing the values of kindness, compassion and giving back.

02/10/2026

Some legacies are built with milestones. The most meaningful ones are built with people, purpose and a vision that keeps moving forward.

Today, we celebrate Saifuddin Hajee, our Chairman and Founder, whose journey has been deeply rooted in the maritime world and shaped by a simple yet powerful purpose: creating solutions that make a difference at sea.

From the early days of SHM Shipcare to the journey of building SHM, his vision has grown across marine safety, engineering, shipbuilding, offshore solutions and maritime services.

But beyond the milestones and achievements is a legacy of people, relationships and a shared belief in doing work that matters.

As we celebrate, Founder’s Day, we celebrate the journey he began, the people who have carried it forward and the generations that will continue to build upon it.

Mr Saifuddin Hajee,
Happy Founder’s Day!

02/10/2026

Every meaningful journey begins with the right values.

We are inspired by the power of truth, peace and purpose in shaping a stronger tomorrow. His principles continue to inspire us to move forward with clarity, courage and compassion.

Happy Gandhi Jayanti!

India and Russia are building a stronger industrial partnership, with ambitions to take bilateral trade to USD 100 billion by 2030. As new trade routes, shipbuilding initiatives and maritime corridors take shape, the opportunities across the marine ecosystem are growing too.

From vessels and shipyards to ports, terminals and offshore facilities, every new connection needs a strong foundation of safety.

We believe that safer maritime operations are what keep these connections moving forward.

India’s deepwater story is moving forward. 🌊

ONGC’s latest gas discovery in the deep waters of the Mahanadi Basin marks an encouraging step in the country’s offshore exploration journey.

The maiden well of its current deepwater campaign is flowing gas at an encouraging rate, following its perforation on 18 September 2026. The discovery also comes as India advances the Samudra Manthan initiative, aimed at accelerating offshore exploration and unlocking the potential of its deep and ultra-deepwater frontiers.

The next step is just as important: understanding the reservoir, its extent and its commercial potential.

As exploration moves deeper into India’s waters, developments like these offer a glimpse into the scale of opportunity across the country’s offshore energy ecosystem.

A policy can set the course. It is what we do with it that moves maritime forward.

From safety and sustainability to skills and preparedness, meaningful progress happens when commitments move beyond paper and into everyday action.

This World Maritime Day, we celebrate the intent to turn policy into practice.

Some of the best things we can do start with simply coming together.

Our teams came together in Surat for a beach cleanup along the Gujarat coastline, turning a day by the sea into a meaningful step towards cleaner shores and a healthier environment.

Because caring for our planet is a collective effort, and every little action can create a ripple of change.
