i’m careful about posting student results.

because the over-explainer in me wants to tell you every nuance: the dates, the routes, the release windows, the 50 things that have to line up for 4 business seats to asia…

(and yes, i’m gonna say it: results are one small part coach and one HUGE part the student)

but this one is special 🥹

a student in Family Miles Mastery who’s been with me since april.

her dream: japan, singapore, and hong kong in winter 2027, business class, for her family of 4.

my live group coaching program felt expensive to her. she hadn’t budgeted for it. she said no at first.

a week later, she changed her mind. she told me the cost of coaching was only a small portion of what the trip itself costs.

then we got to work.

In one of the classes, i walked her and my other students through booking japan airlines’ early-bird seats live, right when they were released. everyone followed along in their own accounts, showed me what they had, and we fixed it together.

two days later, she told me she’s confident she can get those seats for winter 2027. she ran her own points math: enough for 4 business seats.

and she sent me this.

JAL changed its rules.

and she was ready for plan B. plan C. ready to pivot. because that’s exactly the “what if” we practice inside the program.

2 seats is a trip.
4 seats to Asia is a project, another skills , no body tells you online.

at 52, i decided i was done taking care of everyone else first and putting myself last.

so i started using my points on me. not instead of the family trips, on top of them.

we’d take the family trip, and then i’d stay a few extra days on my own. or go out early by myself before everyone flew in.

i spent two months in japan that way. a few nights in vegas, just me. i sat down to meals and ate my own food warm, instead of cutting up someone else’s.

i earn the points on one side. then i turn them into time that’s just mine.

the rules i made for myself:
📍
1. around the family trip, i add a few days that are just mine. i fly out early or stay on after everyone goes home
📍
2. i go places i’d never take the kids or my husband. the dusit thani in kyoto. a quiet dinner at Azekura in JW Marriott Nara, where nobody needs anything from me
📍
3. i slow way down. i want to taste the food and remember it, not rush to the next thing
📍
4. one night at the sheraton in kagoshima i spent the whole evening talking to the chef about the kagoshima beef he was cooking. i used to think a night like that wasn’t for someone like me

5. i use my points on hotels too from autograph tokyo to sheraton Kagoshima not just flights. a nice room, a real stay

6. i stopped saving the dream bucket list for someday. i finally made it to furano. i’m done waiting

7. i still take the family trips, and i love them just as much. me getting my own days doesn’t mean my family gets less of me

8. taking care of myself was never taking anything away from them. took me too long to believe that

for years we flew to Hong Kong in economy. 16 hours in the back me, my husband, 2 kids …counting down every single minute 😮‍💨

now we’re up front. business class. together.

and it wasn’t luck. it’s 3 credit cards i use on purpose. the POINTS they earn are what actually fly us over, and each one gives us a different way in:

🏆 the bilt palladium card

its points move to cathay pacific for a straight shot to hong kong. OR to japan airlines into tokyo. OR to starlux so we’re all on ONE plane, two up front, two right behind.
one card, this many ways over.

🏆 the united explorer card

this one surprised me. since 2026 united holds back the good up-front seats just for people who have their card, and i mean 2, 3, 4 seats on the SAME flight.
that’s EVERYTHING when you’ve got younger kids. san francisco to tokyo runs about 90,000 points each, up front. not 250k …

🏆 your citi bank cards

ones you already use for groceries and gas, travel and food quietly turning into points to asia. you’re not doing one extra thing.
they reach cathay, japan airlines, eva air, singapore, american... so many ways into both cities.

that’s the whole thing. a few different cards, used on purpose, so our family always has a way to asia, up front so that we enjoy the most comfort and memories in every trip.

the unsexy things i’d do to fly my family of 4 business class to japan & thailand at christmas on points ⬇️

no secret hack 🤫. a lot of it is boring… but it works.🙌

🔥1. no credit card debt. period.
if i can’t pay it all off this month, i don’t buy it.

🔥2. no “best card” from the internet.
so many parents open it, then find out its points don’t get them to asia. i only open cards that reach tokyo or bangkok.

🔥3. every card has its own job.
points everywhere, but never enough for 4 seats? i use each card where it earns extra points, so our points pile up for one trip.

🔥4. i decide my priorities before i search.
can’t find 4 business seats together? most flights don’t have them. do we have to sit together, or can we split up? 2 on one flight, 2 on another. that’s what makes 4 business seats possible.

🔥5. my backup plan is ready before i click.
seats gone the second you click? last time i went for japan airlines business from san francisco. gone. i switched to los angeles in seconds, because i’d already decided we could drive down.

🔥6. i practice first.
searched for 4 seats and saw nothing? that doesn’t mean there’s nothing. i search 1 seat, then 2, to see what’s really consistently there. so on the real day, i’m fast.

🔥7. no moving points “just in case.”
fly home to japan or thailand every year? go ahead, you’ll use them. one big dream trip? i wait until i see the pattern or seats.

🔥8. a boring little notebook.
never sure when to look? i write down when seats you can book with points show up. it tells me when to look and where else to go.

🔥9. i stay calm with last minute.
think last minute is impossible for 4? i’ve booked both early bird and last minute. 1 seat, 4 seats, all of it. it works if you can stay calm when nothing is sure yet. that’s a skill, and you can learn it. Follow me, and I slow you how.

none of this is sexy. sleeping lie-flat all the way to tokyo is.

✨1. decide what OUR dream trip looks like. not someone else’s on instagram

✨2. write down our must-haves. then ask: do we HAVE to sit together, or is it just nice?

✨3. decide if we’d fly from a different airport to get better seats

✨4. stop asking “which card next?” until we know where we’re going (a huge bonus gets a pass 😉)

✨5. expect someone to say “just pay cash” or “that’s too complicated,” and have my answer ready

✨6. pick WHERE in asia. japan? hong kong? thailand? australia? it’s a big map

✨7. count the points we already have. most families have more than they think

✨8. collect points that can get us to asia, not random ones

✨9. learn to search on the airline’s website myself. apps help, but they’re not the skill

✨10. learn that before i move a single point. once points move, they can’t come back

✨11. picture the kids’ faces when their seat turns into a bed. that’s the fuel on the boring days

✨12. set a reminder about a year before the trip. that’s when seats show up, and the good ones go fast

✨13. remember airlines often show seats to their own members first, so know whose points we’re using

✨14. keep a little notebook of when seats show up. boring? yes. it’s also how the panic goes away

✨15. stop comparing us to a solo traveler on a podcast who booked first class in 20 minutes

✨16. stop waiting until i “know enough” to start

✨17. refuse to feel bad for not knowing what i don’t know. nobody is born knowing this stuff

✨18. believe we’re a business class family now, not a “someday” family

✨19. write down why this trip matters and stick it on the fridge

✨20. learn the confusing part from someone who’s done it with kids, not from tips made for solo travelers

✨21. get in a room with a mom who’s done it for a family of four, and copy her steps
