If you would like some Italian wine in time for the holidays, now is the time to order. Our favorite driver in Tuscany will be sending out shipments tomorrow (Monday 11/15).

This is the most requested half a case, 3 bottles of Brunello di Montalcino and 3 bottles of Bordeaux style wine from the seaside of Tuscany. Of course it is also possible a case of 12. Contact [email protected] to place your order. #

Now that things are finally re-opening in Italy, it’s a joy to visit one of my favorite bars in Florence, Caffè Gilli & to have a handcrafted cocktail made by one of my favorite bartenders, David Sarallo.

What is your favorite cocktail?

Things in Florence are so different than they were a month ago!

Restaurants are open with outdoor dining, museums are open & even gyms are re-opening. Vaccines are getting scheduled (for example the first appointment may be in July and the second dose 3 months afterwards- it’s slow, but it’s progress). Masks are still required & there is still a curfew, but things are looking much brighter!

Photos: here many restaurants prepare outdoor tables for lunchtime.

Happy Dantedì! ⚜️

Today is the first ever holiday celebrating Dante. The word is a play on Dante and the Italian word for day. Dante is not only famous for writing The Divine Comedy, but he is considered the Father of the Italian language. 2021 marks the 700th anniversary of his death.

Apparently today celebrates the first day of his afterlife and his journey into hell/inferno. I sure hope that’s not a sign of things yet to come!

A sunset photo from the days when we had freedom to do things in Florence, including climbing to the top of the famed cupola.

We can’t wait for the days we can do this again. Have you climbed to the top of the duomo in Florence? Share your photo below.

Happy 1st Day of Spring!

This statue represents Spring. She is one of four such statues on the Santa Trinità bridge in Florence, each representing a different season. This beautiful bridge was destroyed during WWII, the Italians retrieved the remnants from the river and re-created the bridge. ❤️

Memories from the 2020 lockdown in Italy.

March 11, 2020
Day 2 of the Quarantine/Lockdown
The local market by our house, Sant’ Ambrogio, remains open. There is plenty of meat, fish, fruits, vegetables. Here, one of the butcher shops carved the duomo out of lard.

And, the shop on the way home even has toilet paper fully stocked!

There are certainly fewer people and everyone is respecting the 1 meter distance between each other.

Memories from the 2020 lockdown in Italy, which began one year ago today.

From March 10, 2020
Day 1 of the Quarantine
It’s a beautiful day, so I took a walk, as we are permitted to walk around and even go to places like the grocery store or restaurants. There are regulations about how many people can enter & the distance between people in such places, and they must close by 6 PM.

We made a quick visit to a local market last night, before the quarantine took effect, to pick up some essentials. No panic or chaos last night and none today. I peered in the windows of a few grocery stores today and the shelves were stocked & people were acting civil.
