Innovation, safety, and vision: ARTURO takes flight!

West Sicily Gate continues to lead the way in the adoption of advanced technologies for port infrastructure management and security with the launch of operations of the autonomous drone “Arturo” at the Cruise Terminals in the Port of Palermo.

Thanks to its Drone-in-a-Box technology, Arturo can autonomously take off, perform scheduled or on-demand missions, and return to its charging station, representing one of the most advanced operational applications currently available in the industry.

The initial objective is the monitoring and deterrence of unwanted bird activity, but the potential of this technology extends far beyond that: quay operations monitoring, patrol of concession areas, access surveillance, and support for HSE and Security activities.

With this project, West Sicily Gate is not simply introducing a new operational tool; it is paving the way for an innovative model of Cruise Terminal management, where automation, efficiency, and safety work together to enhance operational performance and sustainability.

The future of port operations is already here. And in Palermo, it has a name: Arturo.

This thought-provoking question opened the panel *“Accessible Seas: Advancing Inclusion in Cruise Travel”* during the 68th MedCruise General Assembly, highlighting the importance of accessibility and inclusion across the cruise industry.

During the discussion, West Sicily Gate’s General Manager, Antonino Corrao, shared the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing every operational and infrastructural aspect of the West Sicily Gate Cruise Terminal, with the goal of ensuring the best possible experience for all passengers.

Accessibility is not just a feature—it is a fundamental value that helps make travel more inclusive, comfortable, and enjoyable for everyone.

Oggi abbiamo inaugurato il “Cruise Terminal Sammuzzo”: uno spazio moderno, luminoso e all’avanguardia, pensato per accogliere al meglio i crocieristi che scelgono la nostra splendida Palermo.

Dalle parole della nostra Presidente Anna Masutti e del Direttore Antonino Corrao, emerge una visione chiara: offrire servizi d’eccellenza che facciano sentire ogni viaggiatore il benvenuto fin dal primo istante.

Un obiettivo condiviso con la Presidente dell’Autorità Portuale Annalisa Tardino, il Sindaco Roberto Lagalla, l’Assessore delle infrastrutture e della mobilità Alessandro Aricò e il Capitano di Vascello Guglielmo Cassone, Comandante in seconda della Capitaneria di Porto di Palermo.

Il Terminal Sammuzzo è pronto a ospitare le regine dei mari, garantendo velocità, sicurezza e quella bellezza architettonica che solo Palermo sa offrire.
