This just in from our partners at the Program...

Teen Driver Safety Week: October 18-24Teen Driver Safety Week is a great time to help new drivers learn to share the road with large trucks and buses. FMCSAs free Teen Driver Safety Education Toolkit gives driving instructors, parents, and community leaders a turnkey 30- or 40-minute lesson, complete with a lesson plan, slide presentation, student handout, and a shareable social graphic for students who complete the lesson.

School Bus Safety Week: October 19-23Millions of children ride a school bus every day. From 2000 to 2024, 63 people died in crashes involving a driver illegally passing a stopped school bus, and nearly half of them were pedestrians age 18 or younger. The message for every driver is simple: when the stop-arm is out, stop. School Bus Safety Week page has everything you need to amplify that message, including a sample news release, talking points, social graphics and copy, and videos.

Maintenance Worker Killed by Semi-Truck While Checking Diesel Containers in the Rain at Kentucky Gas Station; Semi Pulled Away From Pumps Without Knowing It Hit Him

LOUISA, KENTUCKY — A maintenance worker was killed at a gas station along US-23 in Louisa early Monday morning after a semi-truck pulling away from the fuel pumps struck him without the driver realizing it, according to Louisa Police Department.

A gas station worker noticed a body around 5:50 a.m. and called police. A customer came across the body shortly after and called 911 again. Police Chief Steven Wilburn said the maintenance worker had been checking diesel containers in the rain when the semi-truck pulled out after pumping gas and struck him. The worker died at the scene.

Police reviewed surveillance footage, identified the trucking company, and called the driver back. The truck driver returned to the scene immediately upon being contacted. The victim's name has not been released. The incident remains under investigation.

FMCSA has further cleared the way for truly driverless autonomous trucks to operate, granting a full exemption allowing cab-mounted warning beacons instead of requiring warning triangles. Meanwhile, a court shot down an operator's challenge to FMCSA's waivers.

Docket ID

FMCSA-2026-0826

SBTC just filed this request:

Administrator Barrs,

SBTC is today requesting that this comment period please be extended for two weeks (or if need be, reopened) due to the fact that so many carriers have been adversely affected by the FMCSA's ongoing MOTUS technical difficulties, which includes MOTUS outages and call center closures.

Organizations like ours have been overwhelmed by requests for assistance and may not have been able to effect a timely filing by today.

The SBTC just asked who leads the House Trucking Caucus in Congress to hold hearings on this MOTUS Fiasco and bring in to testify before the T&I Committee to account for this mess.

We really appreciate the personal efforts of and his team including Ken Riddle to fix these errors one-by-one but the agency needs to employ an administrative expungement procedure to prevent further pain caused by reinstatements to reverse these MOTUS errors that are held against affected carriers by Big brokers, and carrier "fraud prevention platforms" like and Highway.com.

Our broker accountability bill would address some of this.

See:

"(17) Property brokers have recently engaged in the unreasonable and discriminatory practice of refusing to engage the services of new entrant motor carriers despite the fact they have lawful operating authority solely on the basis that their authority is new or has been recently reinstated after a short insurance lapse as if they were new. It is the sense of Congress that this practice constitutes unreasonable restraint of trade."
