I’ve traveled across Japan… nowhere feels like Koyasan.

Koyasan doesn’t just look beautiful, for once when I say this, it genuinely feels like stepping into another world✨

1,000-year-old cedar trees, lanterns that have burned for centuries, and a silence you can’t find anywhere else in the country. It is one of the most breathtaking places Ive ever been too ever.

200,000 graves. 900-year-old lanterns. We came for the history… stayed for the snake vs. frog 🐍🐸

Came to Okunoin for 1,000 years of history and 900-year-old lanterns. Left having watched a snake and frog for 10 straight minutes. 10/10 still recommend.

I travelled 6 hours to see Japan’s tallest waterfall… and arrived 30 minutes too late 😭

Nachi Falls is one of Japan’s most sacred waterfalls (133m of pure drop) and I got there just as the light disappeared.

Genuinely thought the trip was wasted… until I stuck around and came back the next day 😂

Japan’s most dangerous thing? Ice cream 🍦🇯🇵

No, seriously.

Japanese ice cream is SO good, and with konbinis on every corner and endless crazy flavours to try, I ended up eating it almost every single day 😂

Matcha, melon, sweet potato, chocolate monaka… I wanted to try them all.

If you visit Japan, you HAVE to try the ice cream. Just be careful — once you start, you might not be able to stop 🍦😂

🍎🏮 I thought it was just a lantern… then it started transforming 🤯

Getting up close to the Hirosaki Neputa in Kobe was an amazing experience that let me see how these giant floats work spin, rise, fold, and transform right before your eyes!

The craftsmanship, engineering, and teamwork behind these floats is something you don’t fully appreciate until you see it in person play out in fron of you✨

🇯🇵 Everything you’ve heard about teaching in Japan might be wrong.

Spend enough time online and you’ll find people saying teaching in Japan is stressful, lonely, or not worth it…

But after spending a year teaching in Japanese schools, my experience was completely different.

I met incredible students, worked alongside amazing teachers, travelled across Japan, and created memories I’ll never forget.

Was it perfect? Of course not.

But it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! Genuinely incredible and life changing!!!

I aim to share the reality of what teaching in Japan was actually like for me—both the challenges and the things that made it so special.

Just one person.

Before moving to Japan, I never thought much about eating alone.

For me, meals were about the people I shared them with—the conversations, laughter, and stories.

Then I moved to Japan and found myself eating most meals by myself.

At first, I didn’t enjoy it.

But over time, those quiet meals became something I looked forward to. They gave me time to slow down, appreciate the food, and enjoy the moment.

I realised that being alone and being lonely aren’t always the same thing.

Could you solve an English treasure hunt in Japan? 🗺️🇯🇵

I set up this treasure hunt for my Japanese high school’s English Club — clues hidden around campus, all written in English, each one leading to a hidden letter. First team to spell it out and sprint back to the club room won 🏆

🎥🇯🇵 My Japanese high school students tried a 200-year-old animation technique…

I taught my students how to create a thaumatrope! One of the earliest animation devices, first introduced in the 1820s.

By drawing two different images and spinning them quickly, the brain combines them into a single picture. It’s a simple idea, but it’s a great way to explore the origins of animation and how our eyes and brains work together.

I teach Animation as a part of Digital Technologies in Australia so I love teaching content like this!

I was really impressed by the creativity and effort the students put into their designs. 👏✨
