In almost every convenience store, boutique, and restaurant, transactions are handled through a dedicated money tray called a Tsuri-bon.

Here is how to pay gracefully:

🤲 Place It on the Tray: Place your cash, coins, or credit card neatly inside the tray.

🤝 Two-Handed Return: The cashier will pick up the tray to process your payment. When they hand you back your change or card, they will usually present it to you using both hands as a sign of deep respect.

💴 Keep Bills Flat: Try not to hand over heavily crumpled cash. Flattening it out before putting it in the tray shows respect for the currency and the worker.

Using the tray gives the cashier a clear view of exactly how much money you’ve offered, preventing counting mistakes and keeping the interaction calm and hygienic.

Osaka has a street that ruins every other city for you. 🌃

It is called Dotonbori. And if you have not been — let me paint the picture.
Giant neon signs glowing in every color. A canal below that reflects the whole thing like a mirror. Street food stalls open until 2am. The smell of takoyaki in the air before you even see the stalls. A giant mechanical crab on the side of a building that is somehow more impressive in person than in every photo you have ever seen.

This is not a tourist trap. This is Osaka doing what Osaka does best — feeding you, entertaining you, and making you feel completely alive.
Tips if you are visiting:

🕐 Go after 8pm — daylight does not do it justice

🍜 Skip the obvious chains — the best food is in the small side streets one block back from the main strip

📸 Dotonbori Bridge — stand here for the shot everyone is trying to get

🦀 Look up at the Kani Doraku crab sign — it moves and it is magnificent

🍦 Finish the night with soft serve from one of the canal-side stalls
Osaka people have a saying — kuidaore — which means "eat until you drop."

While Western food culture embraces eating on the move, Japan treats food with a specific stationary respect.

Here is how you should enjoy your snacks:

📍 Eat Near the Stall: Consume your food right in front of the shop or vendor where you bought it.

🗑️ The Trash Dilemma: Japan famously has almost no public trash cans. If you eat near the shop, you can hand your wooden skewers, wrappers, or cups back to the vendor to throw away for you!

👗 Avoid Accidents: Walking with food increases the risk of spilling sauces or drinks onto someone else's clothing in crowded tourist zones.

Eating while standing still keeps the historic streets clean and free of litter, maintaining the beautiful scenery that everyone travels to see.
