They say patience is a virtue, but in the jungles of Yala National Park, it’s a requirement.

After hours of tracking through the scrublands of Sri Lanka, we finally found this majestic Sri Lankan Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) lost in a deep mid-day slumber.

There’s something incredibly humbling about watching an apex predator at its most vulnerable. No prowling, no hunting—just the quiet rhythm of the wild. 🐾

🦉 The Ghost of the Canopy
There’s something hypnotic about the gaze of a Brown Fish Owl.

Caught this beauty resting deep within the shadows today. Unlike many of its cousins, this specialist raptor thrives near water, scanning the banks with those piercing orange eyes. It’s a master of patience and a true icon of the tropical wilderness.

Moments like these remind us why protecting these forest corridors is so vital. There is a whole world living just above our heads, if only we remember to look up.

TRAVEL TIPS: Navigating Money in Sri Lanka (2026 Edition) 💱

Planning your bucket-list trip to the Teardrop Island? Understanding the local currency is the first step to a smooth adventure! Here is the Tour the Sri Lanka quick guide to the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR).

The Basics

Currency: Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR)

Symbol: Rs or රු

Banknotes: 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 2000, and 5000.

Coins: 1, 2, 5, and 10 rupees (Great for small tips!).

3 Pro-Tips for Foreign Travelers:

The "Small Note" Rule: While 5,000 Rs notes are common, many small shops and Tuk-Tuk drivers struggle with change. Always keep 100 and 500 rupee notes handy for your daily coconut water or short rides!

Card vs. Cash: Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are widely accepted in Colombo, Galle, and major resorts. However, if you're heading to Ella, Sigiriya, or local markets, cash is essential.

ATM Wisdom: Use ATMs at major banks (like HNB, BOC, or Sampath Bank) for the safest transactions and fair exchange rates.

Sigiriya – The Pride of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Sigiriya, also known as the “Lion Rock,” is one of the most historically important and breathtaking places in Sri Lanka. Rising nearly 200 meters above the surrounding plains, this ancient rock fortress is a masterpiece of architecture, art, and engineering.

Built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa I, Sigiriya was once a royal palace built on top of a massive rock. The site includes beautiful water gardens, stunning frescoes, the famous Mirror Wall, and the grand Lion Gate that once guarded the entrance to the summit.

Because of its outstanding cultural and historical value, Sigiriya was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.

The Story Behind Sigiriya

According to history, King Kashyapa took the throne from his father and built Sigiriya as a strong fortress, fearing an attack from his brother Moggallana. Years later, his brother returned with an army to reclaim the kingdom. During the final battle, a misunderstanding caused Kashyapa’s army to retreat, and the king lost his life. After this, Sigiriya became a Buddhist monastery.

Today, Sigiriya stands as a symbol of Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, ancient brilliance, and dramatic royal history. It is truly a treasure of our nation.
