Kelaniya Temple – History 🇱🇰

Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara is one of Sri Lanka’s most historically significant Buddhist temples. According to Buddhist tradition, the temple is associated with a visit by Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka during his third visit to the island.

The temple has a history dating back more than 2,000 years and has been rebuilt and restored several times throughout Sri Lanka’s history. Its beautiful murals and sculptures reflect Sri Lankan Buddhist art and culture.

Today, Kelaniya Temple remains an important place of worship and pilgrimage, attracting both locals and visitors from around the world. 🌿🙏
