🎉 IT’S NAADAM FESTIVAL TIME! 🇲🇳🐎🏹🤼
The most anticipated celebration of the year has arrived! Every July, Mongolia comes alive with colorful festivities, cultural traditions, and the nation’s greatest sporting events as people gather to celebrate Naadam, Mongolia’s National Festival. 🇲🇳🫶🏻
Known as “Eriin Gurvan Naadam” (The Three Manly Games), the festival features Mongolia’s three traditional sports:
🐎 Horse Racing
🏹 Archery
🤼 Mongolian Wrestling
During Naadam, families and friends come together dressed in beautiful traditional deel, enjoying music, dance, local cuisine, and festive gatherings across the country. Beyond the celebrations, Naadam also carries a deep historical meaning that reflects Mongolia’s proud heritage.
📜 The History of Naadam
Naadam traces its origins back over 2,000 years, when wrestling, horse racing, and archery were not only competitions, but also important ways to train warriors and build strength, skill, and endurance. Over time, these traditions became deeply woven into Mongolian culture, and during the era of the Great Mongol Empire, they played a vital role in preparing soldiers and celebrating courage, precision, and resilience! 🤩
In 1921, following Mongolia’s People’s Revolution, Naadam became the country’s official national holiday. Today, it continues to honor Mongolia’s independence, rich heritage, and enduring traditions. 🫂✨
