COVID-19 Strategic Households Storm Awareness project was a strategic partnership between Strategy and Innovation for Development Initiative (SI4DEV) http://www.si4dev.org/ and E-ment Global Enterprise to break the chain of person to person transmission of Covid-19 at community level; through awareness creation and distribution of palliatives and personal protective equipment (PPE) like nose mask, hand sanitizer and hand-wash to households. This intervention project was meant to cushion the effects of the lock-down in Kaduna State and to flatten the curve; it impacted over 100 persons in 20 households. Some of the beneficiaries have these to say;

YOUTH ENTERPRISE INITIATIVE.

This is an initiative of E-ment Global Enterprise as a way of integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into business. Through this initiative we aimed at promoting technical education and vocational skills development which does not leave anyone behind irrespective of background of birth and education. We equally want to build young people's interest in entrepreneurship, leadership, workforce, and community development.

We promote inclusive economic growth by creating and expanding economic opportunities for youths’ entrepreneurial development in order to reduce unemployment and rural poverty. We build resilience and sustainable livelihood among young people.

The core objectives of this initiative is to promote the development and scaling of sustainable, innovative solutions and approaches that can help strengthen the capacities of young people in entrepreneurship to mitigate, adapt to or recover from natural or man-made shocks and stresses, like poverty and unemployment thereby strengthening their resilience.

It offers innovative solutions by training young people in vocational skills in business management, sales and distribution, satellite, cctv, electrical and solar installations, repairs, and technical maintenance. This will also offer young people alternatives to violence and crimes through building their resilience, and sustainable livelihood in order for them to become economically empowered.

Through this initiative we have successfully trained 150 young persons directly through workshops and seminars; and also we have created about 500 indirect jobs.

Youth unemployment is one of today’s big global challenges. The World Bank estimates we need 600 million new jobs in the next 10 years just to keep global employment rates constant and according to the International Labor Organization, 73.3 million of the world’s unemployed are young people (about
36%). Add ‘under-employed’ youth to this and the number triples; over 169 million young people earn less than US$2 per day. The problem is even greater in rural communities where increasing migration to urban areas around the world means a higher concentration of rural poverty.
What are of roles of businesses especially MSMEs in achieving the global agenda 2030, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals?
