As an Architectural and Urban Planning Consultant, upon completion of my design / consultancy services, there is always the need to sending completed hard copy documents to my clients and among other fellow professionals.
The issue had always been that I mostly have to travel down to deliver those documents. I, over the time, therefore resorted to the usage of commercial drivers through their parks. This is a park to park logistics service which means I have to get to the park close to my location to drop off and the receiver has to go to the park close to him/her for collection. Each time I am to receive a parcel I have to stay back close to the park to wait for the driver to arrive to the park so that I can collect my parcel coupled with the unruly attitude of most drivers else your parcel may get lost when not collected on time.
Most time, they wouldn't call you and you will be the one to keep calling them at intervals to be able to track your parcel to pick up. There was one particular day, one of my professional colleagues sent a parcel since morning as early 7:00am (because I spoke with the driver from the other park immediately the colleague dropped off the parcel).
But surprisingly, five (5) hours down the line, I was still waiting for this driver oooo for a journey of 2hrs (even on a route that is guaranteed to be free of traffic congestion), whereas I had an important appointment scheduled for 3:30 pm and am supposed to take off as early as 2pm to be on the safe side. Lo, and behold, I was calling this driver from 12noon and he wasn't even picking up his calls.
That's how I left home 2:30pm, just 20 minutes into the journey, this driver started calling me that where am I, I should come and pick up immediately or else one thing or the other wilI happen. He was ranting and saying all sort of rubbish, that's how I just ignored him, went for my appointment and came back for him later in the day.
He eventually took it back with him because he claimed he cant drop it for anyone else. To cut the story short, after series of excuses from him, I ended up collecting the parcel after four (4) days of several calls.
This experience made me to upgrade my mode of logistics. I began to use delivery bikes for my deliveries. This method seems better but its highly exorbitant and I always have to wait till one come to deliver in my area before I can engage them or travel down to a location where they are easily accessible. There is a particular day I wanted to send a parcel to one of my client in Okokomaiko, all the way from Epe.
