What if a pilgrim finishes his ‘Umrah but has no money or tools to shave or trim his hair, and wants to wear his normal clothes?

According to Islamic teachings, a pilgrim cannot complete his ‘Umrah until he shaves or trims his hair, as Allah says:
“…having shaved their heads and shortened (their hair)” [Al-Fath: 27]

So, he must not wear normal clothes or do anything forbidden in the state of Ihram until shaving or trimming is done.

- If he cannot find any shaving or trimming tools, he should wait patiently until he finds one or gets help; he should not take off his Ihram yet.

- But if he is forced to wear normal clothes due to necessity (like extreme cold or lack of means), then he may do so but must offer a Fidyah (compensation), as mentioned in the Qur’an:
“…then a ransom (fidyah) of fasting or charity or sacrifice.” [Al-Baqarah: 196]

This means he should choose one of the following:
Fast for three days, or
Feed six poor persons, or
Sacrifice one sheep.

The City of Light – Madinah al-Munawwarah

Today, I reflect on the beauty and virtues of the blessed city of Madinah – the city our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) chose as his home, the city that embraced Islam with open arms, and the city that holds the tranquil resting place of the Seal of the Prophets.

Virtues of Madinah:

1. The Prophet’s Sanctuary: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"Verily, Iman returns and retreats to Madinah like a snake returns to its hole."
(Bukhari & Muslim)
2. Blessed Land: The Prophet (peace be upon him) made du’a:
“O Allah! Bless Madinah as You blessed Makkah or even more.”
(Bukhari)
3. A Sacred Boundary:
Madinah is Haram (sacred), and within it, good deeds are magnified and respected.
4. The Intercession of the Prophet:
Visiting Madinah with love and respect grants the visitor the special opportunity to send peace directly to the Prophet (peace be upon him), with assurance that it reaches him.
5. A City of Peace and Tranquility:
Every heart that walks through the streets of Madinah feels an unexplainable calm – a serenity found nowhere else.

Let’s make du’a to visit this sacred city again and again.

Week 1 Lecture: Introduction to Hajj, Virtues & Spiritual Readiness

1. Introduction
We begin today by thanking Allah for granting us the opportunity to prepare for this blessed journey of a lifetime, (the Hajj) It is a journey that is not just physical, but spiritual and transformational.
The Prophet (SAW) said: "Whoever performs Hajj and does not engage in obscenity or commit sin, will return (after Hajj) like the day his mother gave birth to him."
(Bukhari & Muslim)

2. What is Hajj?
Linguistically, Hajj means "to intend a journey."

Islamically, it means: A specific journey to the Ka‘bah during the prescribed time with specific acts of worship as taught by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam and it is obligatory once in a lifetime for every capable Muslim.
“And Hajj to the House is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses…”
(Surah Aal-Imran 3:97)

3. The Virtues of Hajj
◇ Forgiveness of all sins
◇ Reward of Jannah
◇ Renewal of life with a clean slate
◇ Status of being a guest of Allah
The Prophet (SAW) said: The pilgrims and those performing Umrah are Allah's guests; their prayers are answered and their supplications are granted.
(Ibn Majah)

4. Spiritual Readiness
Preparing your heart:
Sincere intention (Ikhlās): Do it only for the sake of Allah.
Tawbah: Make sincere repentance and clean your heart before embarking on the journey.

Du‘a: Begin supplicating for a Hajj that is accepted and free of errors.

Preparing your soul:
■ Learn patience and humility.
■ Practice contentment and gratitude.
■ Avoid argumentation and complaining.

Preparing your body:
- Start praying your 5 daily *prayers on time.*
- Practice walking and physical fitness.
- Begin reading about the rites and etiquettes of Hajj.

🕋 Patience: The Key to a Rewarding Hajj Journey 🕋

Hajj is a journey of faith, devotion, and endurance. From long queues to unexpected delays, from the heat of the sun to the challenges of large crowds—every moment of discomfort is an opportunity to exercise sabr (patience).

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Hajj that is accepted brings no reward except Jannah." (Bukhari & Muslim)

To attain this, we must embrace patience at every step:
✅ With people – Everyone is a guest of Allah; overlook mistakes and be kind.
✅ With the process – Trust in Allah’s timing, whether it’s waiting for transport or performing rituals.
* With hardships – Fatigue, hunger, or heat are tests that purify us.

Remember, Hajj is not just about rituals—it’s about shaping our character. The more patient we are, the greater our reward. May Allah grant us patience and accept our Hajj. 🤲

🕋 What If You Forget to enter state of Ihram with intention at Miqat? 🕋

If you pass the Miqat without making your intention (niyyah) for Ihram and here’s what you should do:

* If you remember shortly after passing the Miqat, stop immediately, make your intention, and begin reciting the Talbiyah from where you are.

* If you have traveled far beyond the Miqat, you must return to the nearest Miqat and enter Ihram from there.

* If returning is difficult, you should enter Ihram immediately from your location and offer a dam (sacrificial offering) in Makkah as compensation.

🔹 The Talbiyah is an important Sunnah of Ihram, but the intention itself is essential. Always be mindful when approaching the Miqat to avoid missing this important step.

- Sincere Intention (Ikhlas) – Purify your intention solely for the sake of Allah. The Prophet (SAW) said: "Actions are judged by intentions." (Bukhari & Muslim)
- Financial & Physical Readiness – Ensure your means of Hajj are halal and prepare physically for the demands of the journey.
- Learning the Rites – Study the correct way to perform Hajj to avoid mistakes. The Prophet (SAW)said: "Take from me your Hajj rites." (Muslim)
- Spiritual Preparation – Increase your istighfar (seeking forgiveness), improve your character, and strengthen your connection with the Qur’an and du'a.
- Strengthening Brotherhood – Hajj unites millions of Muslims from around the world. Practice patience, kindness, and humility.

Rules on Face Veil and Gloves for Women During Ihram

When a woman enters the sacred state of Ihram for Hajj or Umrah, there are specific guidelines she must follow regarding her attire.

- Face Veil (Niqab): A woman in Ihram is not allowed to wear a traditional face veil (niqab) that directly covers her face. However, if she wishes to cover her face in the presence of non-mahram men, she can use a loose piece of cloth or a veil that drapes over her face without touching it. This was the practice of the wives of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

- Gloves: Wearing gloves is also not permitted for women in Ihram. Instead, she should keep her hands uncovered.
- Modesty is Maintained: While these restrictions are in place, women are still expected to maintain modesty by wearing loose and non-transparent clothing.
