Repare from one marantz sa-11S1

The laser was not doing what it should do.
So, in with a new one.

This Quad 44 had an issue with the input buttons.

When pressed, these LEDs did not stay lit.

This can be caused by old, poor solderings or switches that are oxidized internally.

This was checked first on this Quad; the switches measured little resistance, and all contacts were resoldered.

Unfortunately, the problem persisted, so the next step is the control ICs.

The two 16861 ICs are usually not the problem.

After replacing the 16862 IC, the issue was resolved.

What about this rare thorens valve amplifier from 1963?
Completely checked, all the valves measure good and no isseus can be found.

Recapping proces for one quad 44.
Always a pleasure to work on.
All caps in it’s signal path have been increased with factor 4. 100uf 6.3v has been upgraded to 470uf 35v
The result, a far more deep bass respons and a more open soundstage.
Solid gear.

This soundboard from Soundcraft had some isseus with its mute buttons.
The best way to go with these buttons is to replace the whole pcb and if available, the keyboard.
Corrosion is the main isseu here, and becours contacts become bad over time, the user wil needs to push harder on the buttons.
Damage can not be avoided.

So, replaced all parts, easy acces.

Always a pleasure working on these luxman 505 507. Flip the front down and you can get to all connections, switches etc.
Very nice design.
This one is getting a full recap/diode overhaul.

This Luxman was brought to me from an acquaintance of mine.
The story was that it came from a storage in his famely where this amp was from his father.
For many years it was not used, and he did not dare to switch it on.
The amp was dirty, sitting loose in its housing and the feed where missing.
The wood was full of scratches and was looking very dull.

In the first test, the amp did switched on, with a safety lamp in the powerline, and no dc was measured on the emittor resistors before the relais. However, the relais would not come ,, in”. So there was no sound.
Turned out that the capacitor that sits over the relais was bad.
After this replacement the amp came to life.
Then the main capacitors got checkt. And these where very bad. Just half the valeu from what they should be was measured.
A complete recap would be nessasary. This amp for sure had been powered on for a long time in its life.

The diodes that are from the double type in de bias and offset circuit allso got replaced. They are little timebombs that if they fail, the rest of the poweramp wil follow in a split secound. Better to get them out.

At the end the housing got sanded, and treated with new ruby varnish and a layer of clear coat.

Bias reset, switched to 240 volts, all contacts cleaned, this amp can go back for years to come.
Happy it turned out so wel.
