Prithvi Jayanti commemorates the birth of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who ascended the throne at 20 in Gorkha, Nepal. Initiating expansion in 1743, he unified 54 states, culminating in the conquest of the Kathmandu Valley in 1768. This marked the establishment of hereditary rule, lasting until Nepal's transition to a republic in 2008. King Prithvi Narayan Shah's vision aimed at thwarting potential British Empire occupation by consolidating states. His death on January 11th, 1775, left a lasting legacy in shaping modern Nepal, making Prithvi Jayanti a significant national observance.
