SmartTrack SECO (Secure Engine Cut-Off): Prioritizing Safety in Every Drive
At SmartTrack, safety is not just a feature — it’s a core principle of our fleet management philosophy. One of the key safety features we offer is the Secure Engine Cut-Off (SECO), designed to help prevent theft and unauthorized use of vehicles. However, how this feature is installed and operates is just as important as its function.
We urge all clients to understand how their SECO system works. A properly installed SECO should disable the fuel supply, not the ignition system. Cutting off the ignition — especially when a vehicle is in motion — can trigger a sudden loss of steering or braking assist, posing a serious risk to the driver, passengers, and other road users. Imagine a vehicle traveling at 60km/h suddenly shutting down — that scenario can be fatal if the safety system isn't implemented correctly.
That's why SmartTrack works smarter and safer. We ensure our SECO systems are configured to disable the engine safely and responsibly, typically only when the vehicle is parked or at low speed — minimizing harm while maximizing protection.
We encourage all vehicle owners to:
Consult their installer or dealer to verify how their SECO system operates.
Request a test or demonstration to understand the behavior of the cut-off function.
Insist on fuel-line cut-off, not ignition disabling, for a safer and smarter anti-theft solution.
Getting SECO right the first time is critical. It’s not just about protecting assets — it’s about protecting lives.
