Wanepap receives community water supply in response to El Nino scenario//
Wanepap community in the Pilikambi LLG of the Lagaip district now have easy excess to clean water supply in response to potential impacts of El Nino catastrophe.
The project is partly supported by Luena Foundation, a grant-making organization based in USA and the community organizations called Lagaip Poverty Relievers Association and Lagaip Sangai Festival.
Wanepap is one of the densely populated communities in the Lagaip district estimating population of over 3000 comprising teachers, students, church workers, health workers and occasional visitors and guests.
Due to the prolonged dry spell induced by El Nino scenario, it has threatened Wanepap high and primary school, TVET center and other services together with the community to stave for water.
The Luena Foundation has initially supported the community water supply project with small grant valuing $1,500 but it was not adequate to implement the project thus stalled for awhile until we raised some funds from the Lagaip Sangai Festival to commence the connectivity.
Water has been piped down from uphill and installed two taps for the community to excess clean water. We are still mobilizing resources to extend connectivity to schools and other vital services and also supply water to Kanak ward 16 which also faces chronic water shortage for many years.
Water is essential for life and giving water to the community is part of the group's ongoing missions to provide basic needs to better the livelihoods of people dwell in our community.
