Did you know....Chicken Cordon Bleu

is a popular dish known for its crispy breaded chicken stuffed with ham and melted cheese, usually Swiss or Gruyère.

Although the name is French and means “blue ribbon,” many food historians believe the dish was actually inspired by Swiss cuisine.

The phrase “cordon bleu” originally referred to the blue sash worn by elite French knights and later became associated with excellence in cooking.

Interestingly, early versions of cordon bleu were often made with veal before chicken became the more affordable and popular choice.

The dish gained huge popularity in the United States during the 1960s as a fancy dinner-party meal.

Many people mistakenly think the “bleu” in the name refers to blue cheese, but traditional recipes do not use blue cheese at all.

Today, chicken cordon bleu has many variations around the world, including turkey, pork, and even vegetarian versions, showing how versatile and beloved the dish has become.

Did you know....Pancakes
are one of the oldest foods in the world, with evidence suggesting that early humans made simple pancakes more than 30,000 years ago using ground grains and water.

Today, pancakes are enjoyed in many countries, each with its own unique style, such as French crêpes, Japanese fluffy pancakes, and Russian blini.

Pancakes are also connected to Shrove Tuesday, often called Pancake Day, when people traditionally eat pancakes before Lent begins.

Some places even hold pancake races where participants run while flipping pancakes in frying pans, including a famous event in Olney.

The love for pancakes is so great that the world’s largest pancake weighed more than three tons, and astronauts have even eaten pancakes during space missions.

Did you know?

Avocados are a nutrient-rich fruit known for their creamy texture and impressive health benefits.

Unlike most fruits, they are high in healthy monounsaturated fats, which support heart health and help lower bad cholesterol levels.

They are also packed with essential nutrients like potassium, often even more than bananas, along with vitamins C, E, K, and several B vitamins.

Avocados are unique because they contain fiber that aids digestion and helps keep you feeling full longer. Interestingly, they don’t ripen on the tree; they only begin to soften after being harvested.

Native to Central and South America, avocados have become a staple in many cuisines worldwide, from guacamole to smoothies and salads, making them both versatile and nutritious.

Do you know?

Battered pork chop is a popular comfort food found in many cuisines around the world, with each culture adding its own twist.

In Western cooking, especially in the Southern United States, it’s a classic fried dish, while in Asia, variations like Japanese tonkatsu and Filipino breaded pork chops are widely enjoyed.

The cut of meat plays an important role, with bone-in pork chops often staying juicier during frying than boneless ones.

There’s also a common debate between using a wet batter or a breadcrumb coating, batter creates a thicker, puffier crust, while breading results in a crispier texture.

Historically, coating and frying meat helped retain moisture and enhance flavor, especially when meat quality was inconsistent.

Today, the dish is typically served with simple sides like rice, mashed potatoes, or vegetables, and its flavor depends heavily on proper seasoning or marination, with Filipino versions often featuring soy sauce, garlic, and calamansi for a tangy, savory taste.

Did you know that....... Lumpiang Shanghai is one of the most popular Filipino dishes, especially during celebrations like birthdays, fiestas, and holidays.

Despite its name, it is not actually from Shanghai, China, but was inspired by Chinese spring rolls introduced by Chinese traders in the Philippines.

Over time, Filipinos adapted it to suit local taste by using ground pork, garlic, onions, carrots, and seasonings wrapped in thin lumpia wrappers and deep-fried until crispy.

Its bite-sized form makes it perfect as finger food, which is why it rarely disappears last at parties, it’s usually the first to go!

Today, Lumpiang Shanghai is considered a staple in Filipino cuisine, symbolizing hospitality and the Filipino love for sharing delicious food with family and guests.

Do you know that..........Pater or Pastil is a popular street food in Mindanao, especially in General Santos City, where it is widely enjoyed as a quick, affordable, and flavorful meal.

It typically consists of steamed rice topped with shredded beef, chicken, or fish, then wrapped in banana leaves, which enhance its aroma and give it a distinct traditional touch.

One of its most unique features is palapa, a spicy condiment made from shredded coconut, chili, and local spices, adding a rich and slightly fiery flavor.

The dish is deeply rooted in the culinary traditions of the Maguindanaon people, reflecting the influence of Moro cuisine.

Pater or Pastil is often sold in small roadside stalls and is known for its convenience, making it a favorite among students, workers, and travelers looking for a satisfying meal on the go.
