Mall rejects folded new P1000 polymer bill.
(No more trifold wallets guys!!)
The owner of the 1000 peso bill (below) was at the mall and tried to pay for his purchase with the new Philippines polymer bill. The bill was IMMEDIATLY rejected by the mall because it was folded. The Philippines has caught up with other countries already using polymer bills for some time There is at least 50 countries using these polymer bills such as Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, UK, Vietnam and more.
The man Reylan Lopez, took to social media to describe his ordeal.
How would you feel if your money was declined at a store or the mall because it was folded?
Oh and one little point that I forgot to mention...
***YOU COULD GO TO PRISON FOR UP TO 5 YEARS AND GET FINED 20,000 PESOS!! ****
Presidential Decree 247 or the Central Bank Act states that willful defacement, mutilation, ripping, burning or destruction of Philippine banknotes and coins is illegal and punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of not more than PHP20,000.
So get rid of those pesky trifold wallets. Say goodbye to pocket comfort, and buy that long bikers wallet and chain, because your going to need it. Hahahaha 🤣
Or you could simply do what some are doing as a joke and Laminating or "Framing" their bills like the picture below.
All in all, we simply say... DON'T FOLD your money anymore. It could be worthless. 😁
