Eve-teasing is a euphemism used in India, Pakistan(and sometimes Nepal and Bhutan) for public s*xual harassment or molestation of women by men, with use of the word "Eve" being a reference to the biblical Eve, the first woman. Harassment is a common problem women across the world have to face. In the South Asian context the archaic term 'eve-teasing' is employed to describe such harassment. Of cou

rse we in Pakistan are no strangers to the harassment of women, especially in public places such as markets, offices and public transport. Such behaviour can range from constant unwanted ogling to much worse. Because of such negative male attitudes women are not comfortable in public places in this country. Eve teasing is a euphemistic expression that lives that refers largely to s*xual harassment of women in public spaces, thereby constituting women as ‘Eves’, temptresses who provoke men into states of s*xual titillation. This popular perception of s*xual harassment posits the phenomena as a joke where women are both a tease and deserve to be teased. It is an extremely serious problem here, much more so because there is so much s*xual frustration around the country due to the lack of healthy interaction of the s*xes. From derogatory remarks to outright groping, we women have all been a victim of it in one way or another.

IT’S TIME TO STOP EVE-TEASING

EVE-TEASING; There are hundreds of ways to do it: whistling, ogling, making kissing sounds, s*xist and s*xual comments, vulgar gestures, stalking, inappropriate touching. In extreme cases, there can be outright flashing, assault or extremely inappropriate acts in public.

“The change begins at homes where the parents must teach their sons to respect women”.

Whether they are in a bus/train, on roads or at a plush eating joint, women can never feel safe. Men ogle, whistle, pass derogatory remarks and do virtually everything to harass their female counterparts.

Eve Teasing is very common. Everyday women come across some form of eve teasing. What should women do? Should they speak up or remain quite?

The most alarming thing about eve-teasing is that it is the first rung on the ladder of s*x crimes.

EVE TEASING, “It Is ‘FUN’ for the BOYS”.

"Muslim youth have also adopted this disgraceful way of Eve Teasing".

EVE-TEASING IS a rampant social evil. It is all pervasive — beaches, roads, cinema halls, buses and sadly even in educational institutions. When eve-teasing persists even inside educational institutions, one can obviously infer that even the educated youth don't necessarily desist from indulging in this uncouth behaviour.

Eve-teasing is not a victimless crime as it appears on paper, it has resulted in deaths, and when it goes unchecked could lead to public humiliation of women even in broad daylight.

Eve teasing must be stopped. Women deserve respect. Men and women are equal. Our lack of consciousness has lead to a loss of many lives. But we don't want any more lives to say good bye to this world. Women have the right to live freely in the world. Independence is their birth right. They have the right to lead their lives as males. On the other hand, the family and society of the victims or teased girls should have the courage and resolve to support them. Most often, they are misunderstood by their family whenever they inform the family members about teasing. The family and society should support them mentally. So as the govt. must take things seriously. The country wants both of them to be active in such issues.
