Pakistan hopes to sell its JF-17 Thunder aircraft to Malaysia, now that the cash-strapped country is officially looking for such a fighter.

Malaysia was eyeing larger fighters like the Rafale and Typhoon, but that plan was shelved due to budgetary woes, and the country instead turned to fulfill a light combat aircraft requirement. An LCA fleet would support Malaysia’s F/A-18 and Su-30 fighters.

The JF-17 is under consideration alongside the Tejas, produced by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, and the FA-50 Golden Eagle, made by South Korea’s Korea Aerospace Industries. Pakistan’s offering is the most affordable of the three.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to sell six Airbus-320 aircraft, recently retired from its fleet, ARY News reported on Friday.

The aircraft will be sold without engines and in this context, the PIA has sought offers from the country’s renowned companies.

The companies have been asked to submit their offers with the PIA latest by October 26 around 3 pm, while the bids will be opened in the presence of the companies on the same day at 4 pm.

Earlier, an out-of-service ATR aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) fetched Rs8.3 million at auction. The old plane parked at Gilgit airport was auctioned to a local scrap dealer.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday welcomed Air Arabia Group to Pakistan and wished it success in its partnership with local investors to establish a new Pakistani airline, Fly Jinnah.

Lakson Group, one of Pakistan’s leading business conglomerates, and Air Arabia Group, the Middle East and North Africa’s first and largest low-cost carrier (LCC) operator, announced on Friday their decision to form a joint venture to launch “Fly Jinnah”, Pakistan’s new airline.

The proposed joint venture will see the establishment of a low-cost passenger airline, serving domestic and international routes from Pakistan.
