Be prepared, ladies and gents!
Cor blimey! What an absolutely bonkers couple of days it’s been! For the past few days, we’ve been gallivanting around London like a pack of highly organised, slightly confused scouts with Oyster cards and absolutely no fear of the Underground. We’ve been getting properly acquainted with the capital — its atmosphere, its traffic, its buses, trains, tubes, platforms, escalators and that charming British tradition of standing politely in a queue while quietly losing the will to live. Naturally, we’ve ticked off some of the proper London essentials: Big Ben, walks along the Embankment, Shakespeare’s Globe, Tower Bridge — which is not London Bridge, mind you, although we’ve seen that one too — and of course the Tower of London. Mostly from the outside, because once we saw the ticket prices, we decided admiring the walls was a deeply cultural experience in itself.
We’ve wandered here, there and everywhere, fuelled by determination, scout spirit and sprinkled by the occasional portion of fish and chips large enough to feed a small platoon.
We also paid a visit to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter, where we spent the better part of the day rummaging through sets, costumes, props and enough wizarding memorabilia to make us seriously reconsider our career choices. And yes, we tried Butterbeer. Was it magical? Absolutely. Was it suspiciously sweet? Also absolutely. Did we drink it anyway? Of course we did. We are scouts, not cowards. Getting a proper behind-the-scenes look at the world of Harry Potter was worth every minute, every step and every pound that mysteriously vanished from our wallets in the gift shop.
But don’t get your knickers in a twist — our London adventure is far from over! There’s still plenty to see, plenty to explore and probably several more occasions on which we’ll accidentally walk five kilometres because someone said, “It’s just around the corner.” So keep calm, put the kettle on and stay tuned for the next update!
