🌉 ROMANIA–BULGARIA: ONE BRIDGE TOLL REMOVED, BUT NOT ALL! 🇷🇴🇧🇬
Important update for transport companies operating between Romania and Bulgaria.
As of October 1, 2026, Romania has eliminated the bridge crossing fee on the Giurgiu → Ruse direction.
However, this does not mean that all Danube bridge crossings are now free.
🚛 Giurgiu → Ruse: No bridge crossing fee on the Romanian side.
🚛 Ruse → Giurgiu: The Bulgarian bridge crossing fee still applies.
🚛 Calafat ↔ Vidin: Bridge crossing fees remain applicable in both directions.
For example, at Calafat–Vidin, the published crossing fee for a truck over 12 tonnes with at least 4 axles is €37 per crossing, regardless of direction.
Romania has also asked Bulgaria to consider removing the fee in the opposite direction at Ruse, but no equivalent removal has been confirmed.
⚠️ Temporary traffic restrictions at Giurgiu–Ruse
Between October 19–22 and October 26–29, 2026, traffic on a section of the bridge is restricted to one lane, with alternating directions due to maintenance works. Delays are possible.
For transport operators, these differences matter when calculating the real cost of a journey.
With RouteCalc, you can compare truck routes, road tolls and applicable crossing costs before confirming a transport order.
