We enjoyed a really good lunch in the old flatbread baking hut. It was a three-course lunch featuring typical food from the region.

We started with herring and new potatoes, followed by tjälknöl with potato gratin. Tjälknöl is a traditional Swedish dish made from a piece of frozen meat, usually moose or beef, that is slow-roasted at a low temperature and then soaked in a seasoned brine. This makes the meat very tender and gives it a delicious, slightly salty flavour.

We finished with the classic Swedish kladdkaka (chocolate cake) for dessert. 😋

After lunch, it was time to head outside and meet the tame moose that live at the moose rescue centre. It really looked like it was about to start raining, so we grabbed our umbrellas — but luckily, the weather stayed nice! 🫎☀️Jennifer was blowing into an antler to call the moose over.

One of the stops on our Textile & Handicraft Tour was Jamtli Museum in Östersund. 🧵

Here, we explored some of Jämtland’s rich textile heritage, including the famous Överhogdal Tapestries, traditional folk costumes, and beautiful wedding pillows.

It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history, traditions, and craftsmanship that have been passed down through generations in Jämtland. ❤️

We made a stop at Kyrkås Kulturgård, where we joined the annual harvest festival. They were serving homemade food and selling locally produced food products and handicrafts. 😊

During the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing some of the best photos from the Textile and Handicraft Tour that Mid Scandinavia Tours arranged in September. 😊

These photos are from Kyrkås Church in Jämtland, where we got to see the famous "Kyrkåstäcket", also known as the Kyrkås Tapestry.

The original Kyrkåstäcket is a beautiful medieval textile dating back to the 13th century. It is one of the most important pieces of medieval textile art in Jämtland and is now on display at Jamtli Museum. The tapestry that hangs in the church today is a replica.

Gunnar kindly unlocked the church for us so that we could step inside and see where the original tapestry was once displayed. It was a special experience to stand in this historic church and learn more about this beautiful piece of textile history.

A wonderful example of the rich textile and cultural heritage we have here in Jämtland. ❤️

During our textile journey, the group had the opportunity to try wool embroidery, a traditional handicraft from the Jämtland area.

We didn’t have time to finish our projects during the tour, so everyone brought their work home to finish.

The group is still keeping in touch through the group chat we created, and this is one of the beautiful wool embroideries that has now been completed.
