Day four on the creative break in Jämtland. 🧵

Today took us to the beautiful village of Orrviken, where we have a special glimpse into Jämtland’s traditional folk costume heritage. 🌿

During the workshop, we learned about the traditional skirt pouch, often beautifully decorated with wool embroidery. We even got to try the technique ourselves — a small but wonderful introduction to an important part of Jämtland’s textile traditions.

We explored four different costumes while Patrik shared the story behind his national costume from Rödön. It was fascinating to hear about the history, tiny details, and incredible craftsmanship woven into each garment.

The workshop had the nice setting, overlooking Lake Storsjön and the surrounding mountains. And just behind the house? Tame moose wandering through the landscape. 🫎 We couldn’t resist taking a break from crafting to go and say hello!

Later, we visited Ullforum to see another part of the journey: how local wool is transformed into yarn. 🐑🧶

A day filled with tradition, craftsmanship, beautiful landscapes, curious moose, and plenty of new memories — finished off with a lovely dinner. 🌼

Day three at the creative break in Jämtland. 🧵

After breakfast, we left the mountains behind and made our way towards Östersund, the county town of Jämtland.

Our first stop was Kyrkås old church where Gunnar was showing us around. We got to see where the Kyrkås Tapesty was originally placed. Today it is a replica that are in the church and the real one are at the local museum Jamtli - tre museer på en plats! . This textile are 1000 years old!

Our next stop was Kyrkås Kulturgård, a historic heritage farm with a fascinating connection to the region’s past.

We were fortunate to visit Kyrkås on the day of the annual Harvest Festival, which brought the farm to life. Stalls filled the grounds with locally produced food and delicacies, while local artists and craftspeople displayed their work. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience the local traditions and atmosphere, and to meet some of the people who keep these traditions alive.

After lunch, we continued to Östersund and visited Nationalmuseum Jamtli, the regional museum where we got a private guided tour. 😊

One of the highlights of our visit was seeing the famous Överhogdal textiles. Dating back around 1,000 years, these extraordinary Viking Age textiles feature a fascinating array of people, horses and mythical creatures. Their meaning remains open to interpretation, and it was fascinating to see how these ancient works of art continue to inspire curiosity and discussion today.

In the evening, we checked into the Best Western Gamla Teatern in Östersund and rounded off the day with dinner at a local restaurant.

Yesterday was a fun day! 🌿✨

I had the pleasure of taking part in a panel discussion at the Östersund Summit, representing my company, Mid Scandinavia Tours. The discussion focused on local experiences, the domestic market, and what makes a destination attractive — including how we can encourage people who live here to discover and enjoy the amazing experiences available right on their doorstep.

It was a great opportunity to find out more perspectives from the tourism industry and talk about how we can create experiences that appeal to both local guests and international visitors.

In the afternoon, I met up with a wonderful group of international travel professionals who were visiting the region on a FAM trip (Familiarization Trip) with visit Sweden. A FAM trip is an organized trip for travel agents, tour operators, and other travel professionals, giving them the opportunity to experience a destination and its tourism products firsthand — so they can better understand and sell them to their clients.

Over lunch, I had the chance to introduce Mid Scandinavia Tours and share what we can offer international visitors looking to discover the heart of Sweden — from unique local experiences to nature, culture, and authentic adventures. We hope that this leads to some new collaborations with travel agencies.

Day one on the self guided Pilgrim tour along St. Olavsleden 🌼😊

For a couple of weeks ago this four people traveled with Mid Scandinavia Tours from Östersund in Sweden to Trondheim in Norway. 🇳🇴🇸🇪

They joined a self guided tour including both hiking, biking and kayaking along the St. Olavsleden.

This was a fantastic group of people that I got the chance to meet, they meet in college and have been keeping the contact since then. This journey was a reunion for the group! 🥰 Today they live in different countries, one in New Zealand, one in France and two in Irland.

During the upcoming days I will tell you more about the self guided journey that they did! 🥳

A couple of weeks ago after I ended the Pilgrim tour together with my group along the St.Olavleden I did a watercolor painting of the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. ⛪

The Cathedral is built over the burial site of King Olav II ( c. 995–1030, reigned 1015–1028), who brought Christianity to Norway and became the patron saint of the nation; the consecration of new Norwegian monarchs occurs at Nidaros Cathedral. ✨

Today is a special day!

Every year on 27 July, people across Scandinavia commemorate St. Olav's Day (Olsok), the day when the Viking King Olav II Haraldsson of Norway died in the Battle of Stiklestad in 1030. After his death, Olav was declared a saint because many people believed miracles happened at his grave. He soon became the patron saint of Norway and an important symbol of Christianity in the Nordic countries.

We celebrate St. Olav's Day to remember his legacy and the role he played in shaping the history, culture, and Christian heritage of Scandinavia. For centuries, pilgrims have walked the St. Olav Way to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, where St. Olav is buried. Today, the pilgrimage continues to inspire people from all over the world, offering time for reflection, adventure, and a deeper connection with nature and history.

Whether you walk for spiritual reasons, cultural interest, or simply to enjoy the stunning Scandinavian landscapes, the St. Olav Way is a journey that brings the past to life while creating unforgettable memories. ✨
