The new Volvo Penta IPS Hybrid combines superior onboard comfort with the unmatched efficiency of forward-facing IPS drivelines, enabling near-silent cruising, reduced vibration, and silent mooring without the need to run a generator.

Available later this year for the yacht sector, the range covers D13-IPS900 H through D13-IPS1350 H and delivers a fully integrated helm-to-propeller solution. Propulsion, electric motors, batteries, energy management and controls are combined into a single, cohesive package – all connected through Volvo Penta’s Electronic Vessel Control system.

The result is a seamless hybrid experience, enabling features such as Assisted Docking, Joystick Driving, Autopilot, and Glass Cockpit across hybrid and electric drive modes.

Designed to support the future of electric passenger transport. The collaboration between Volvo Penta and Aus Ships brings together advanced electric propulsion technology and decades of shipbuilding expertise to help accelerate the shift toward lower-emission marine transport in Australia.

At the center of the project is a twin installation of the Volvo Penta IPS450E electric propulsion system, delivering 250 kW per driveline and paired with a 460 kWh onboard battery pack and solar panels – creating a flexible energy ecosystem designed for real-world commercial operation.
