I started my Journey in slow fashion as a small child, not realizing it. We did not have a lot of money growing up so use what you have, was mandatory. Crafting was part of my childhood as well. My mother is Finnish and we spent a lot of time in the Finnish countryside and we took Care of what nature gave us. We dyed yarn and fabric by leaves, herbs and biological waste on the beach by the lake in an old kettle. We took the materials and made blankets, sweaters, socks, doilies and carpets using techniques handed down from generation to generation. This gave me the understanding and love for craftsmanship. I started redesigning as teen in Stockholm in the 90s when UFF was opening stores and I thrifted clothes that didn’t fit me to make them even more unique and to give them a second life instead of going to landfill.
During the years of me learning more about pattern making, sowing, materials, embroidery, weaving, crocheting, sketching and costume history I started experimenting and redefining my skills into creating my own style and expression. This has landed me in and I love the way designing and creating the pieces makes me feel. Like I’m finding my way and happiness doing so. Crafting is scientifically proved to be a great way for healing and to relax your brain from hardship’s that we all go through.
So thank you for supporting me in my way through slow fashion and I hope I can bring some joy and happiness by doing so.
It is not a career it’s a way of life.
