On 4 May 2026, as part of the Marine Industry Immersion Programme, the Singapore Maritime Foundation and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore - MPA gave Year 1 Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) students deeper insights into:

⚓ The diverse career pathways available across the maritime sector for different skillsets, backgrounds, and ambitions
⚓ How developments in decarbonisation and digitalisation are transforming the future of maritime
⚓ How maritime continues to move what matters by connecting people, economies, and opportunities around the world

This was the second consecutive year that SMF partnered with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to bring maritime closer to students, reflecting the shared commitment between SIT and SMF to strengthen industry exposure and inspire the next generation to chart their own course in maritime.

A big thank you to SIT for the invite, and to all speakers for your continued partnership in nurturing future maritime talent.

Established by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore - MPA (MPA) and managed by the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), the programme gives students from local universities the opportunity to gain overseas exposure, build industry connections, and gain firsthand experience of the global maritime industry. 🌍

Ahead of their international internships, the awardees took part in an interactive onboarding workshop centred on cultural intelligence, leadership, and workplace readiness. Through hands-on activities such as the LEGO Serious Play, they explored ways to communicate across cultures, adapt to new environments, and work effectively in diverse teams. 🧩

It was inspiring to see meaningful conversations and new connections forming across batches, as MPA GIA alumni shared candid insights, memorable experiences, and offered guidance from their own overseas internships.

To our 2026 MPA GIA awardees - we wish you an exciting and fulfilling journey ahead as you experience maritime globally. Safe travels, make the most of every opportunity, and we look forward to hearing the stories and experiences you will bring back. As you go, remember that every role you take on contributes to a larger purpose: helping to move what matters across the world.

On Saturday, 150 partners across the diverse maritime ecosystem and MaritimeONE scholars pedaled as one community to move what matters – investing in the next generation of maritime talent.

Mr Murali Pillai, Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport, graced the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) City Cycle 2026 as the Guest-of-Honour and flagged off the cyclists with Mr Weng Yew Hor, Chairman, SMF.

Huge appreciation to this year’s 66 sponsors who jointly contributed S$407,000 towards the MaritimeONE Scholarships and Bursaries.

We kicked off our first MaritimeONE Campus Connect of 2026 in partnership with Pacific Basin Shipping Limited, one of the world’s leading owners and operators of dry bulk ships, and NTU Maritime Business Society.

A major highlight of Pacific Basin’s sharing is the launch of their Commercial Graduate Trainee Programme in Singapore. Open to students from diverse backgrounds, the two-year programme features a unique ‘Home & Away’ training, combining global exposure with hands-on rotational experience across departments and international hubs.

Connecting talent with meaningful opportunities is at the heart of what we do at the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF). By leveraging strong industry partnerships, we give students direct access to leading maritime companies, opening doors to valuable networks, real-world insights, and pathways to jumpstart their careers.

A massive thank you to Pacific Basin and NTU MBS for co-organising and hosting this session. It is through such partnerships between SMF, tertiary institutions, and forward-looking companies that we can build the next generation of maritime talent and move what matters.

It has been an action-packed first quarter, with programmes such as the MaritimeONE Campus and Company Connects bringing youths closer to the maritime industry. As we reflect on a meaningful start to the year, let’s take a moment to revisit one of the highlights – Maritime Youth Forum (MYF) 2026 ✨

Initiated by the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), and organised by student leaders of maritime-related societies from NTU Maritime Business Society, SIT Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (SIT NAME), SMU Maritime Merchants Society (SMU MMS), SP Singapore Maritime Academy (SP SMA) and SUSS Supply Chain Interest Group (SUSS SCIG), MYF serves as a platform to build a community amongst university and polytechnic students across diverse disciplines and connect them with the industry.

Graced by Guest-of-Honour Mr. Baey Yam Keng 马炎庆, Minister of State for Transport and for Culture, Community and Youth, the event drew our largest crowd yet, bringing together over 350 youths and industry partners to network and exchange perspectives on “The Future of Shipping for the Next Generation”.

The discussions set an inspiring tone for the year ahead. We thank all panellists, 17 participating companies and student attendees for their strong support in making MYF 2026 possible. Together, we move what matters.

Watch on to hear the key takeaways from our industry partners and students at MYF 2026 — see you next year!

⚓ 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 @ 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝗵𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲

Thank you to Doehle Group (Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG) and SMU Maritime Merchants Society for co-organising 2026’s 1st MaritimeONE Company Connect with the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF)!

We were honoured to have Mr. Fabian Oelze, Managing Director, Doehle Shipmanagement, and Ms. Ava Cheong, Assistant Marketing Manager, Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) introduce how the Doehle Group has grown over the decades into “a partner when it matters”, becoming an efficient network of associated companies offering tailor-made solutions for the shipping industry.

Students from SMU Maritime Merchants Society, NTU Maritime Business Society and NUS' Global Leaders in Operations & Worldwide Trade (GLOW) learnt about the various entities and varied services provided by the Doehle Group, the Group’s development and presence in Singapore, and what day-to-day work looks like in the organisation. They also appreciated hearing about the personal career growth of the speakers, and the close-up networking opportunity with the many Doehle Group professionals from Blue Net Chartering, Doehle Bulk, Doehle Shipmanagement, and ESL.

At SMF, we continuously strive to bring maritime companies in Singapore closer to the talent pool, and to create opportunities for youths to connect with the industry that moves what matters.

A big thank you to Doehle Group and the SMU Maritime Merchants Society for your close partnership and continued support in developing future maritime talent!

🌊 What does it take to build a global maritime career? Sometimes, it starts with saying yes to the unknown.

Earlier this month, the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) hosted the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore - MPA Global Internship Award (MPA GIA) Fireside Chat and Alumni Networking Reception, inviting past and present MPA GIA awardees to share their stories, reflect on their experiences, and have conversations that don’t happen in classrooms.

Two 2025 awardees showed just what that looks like in practice.

Charleen Hang completed a 12-week rotational internship at Columbia Shipmanagement in Limassol, Cyprus. Moving through the technical, commercial, crewing, and insurance departments, she learned how to navigate a multicultural workplace, manage stakeholder expectations, and grow far beyond what she thought was possible in three months.

Lucas Koh took on a procurement & supply chain role across Maran Ship Supplies in Singapore and the Angelicoussis Group HQ in Athens, Greece. He helped to build automation tools, develop dashboards, and evaluate supplier performance. His biggest takeaway: Having technical skills can open doors, but forming relationships and building trust are what keep them open.

That, in essence, is what MPA GIA is about: Not just a line on a resume, but a shift in how one sees the global nature of the industry that moves the world and their place in it.

A sincere thank you to the panellists Chin Yi Zhuan (Deputy CE, MPA), John Martin (SMF Board Member & CEO, Gard Singapore), and Muhammad Nawazsher Khan (Trading Manager, Wilmar International), as well as Foo Shao Ning for moderating a truly engaging discussion.
