Ap Unsat 2011 Well-documented case histories from the region are also particularly welcome.

The series of Asia-Pacific conferences on unsaturated soils began in Singapore in 2000 with strong emphasis on both the theoretical aspect and practical significance of unsaturated soil mechanics in the region. With the continued support of the Technical Committee on Unsaturated Soils (TC6) of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), the 2nd , 3rd , and 4t

h conferences were held in 2003 in Japan, in 2007 in Nanjing, China and in 2009 in Newcastle, Australia respectively. The conferences have provided a forum for researchers and practitioners in the region and beyond to present their latest developments and exchange ideas in the subject, with strong relevance to problems in the region such as heave/desiccation shrinkage, collapse, rainfall-induced slope instability, contaminant transport etc. Latest developments in unsaturated soil mechanics will also lead to a much better understanding and solution of many emerging problems such as soil/atmosphere interaction, thermal & chemical influence, and climate change. Objectives
The organizers of the 5th Asia-Pacific conference on unsaturated soils in Pattaya, Thailand aim that the event will continue to help bridge the gap between the theory and practice of unsaturated soils. In particular, young researchers/academics as well as practising engineers dealing with unsaturated soils from Asia-Pacific region are warmly encouraged to attend the conference and present papers. Conference Topics

The third Italian Workshop on Landslides (The 3rd IWL) - "Hydrological response of slopes through physical experiments, numerical investigations and field monitoring"

Date: Wednesday 23 October 2013 - Thursday 24 October 2013
Location: Partenope Conference Centre,Naples,Italy

Description: The Third Italian Workshop on Landslides will take place in Naples, jointly organised by the Seconda Università di Napoli and the Università di Napoli Federico II. Again, it will concern the relationships between hydrology and slope stability. In fact, the main session will be devoted to the hydrologic response of slopes, viewed through the results of tests on small-scale physical models, of analyses carried out using mathematical models, and of data from the monitoring of well-instrumented natural slopes. Again, renowned researchers from foreign countries will contribute with their knowledge and experience and again, wide and lively discussion will characterise the meeting. This year, a round robin will take place on day two when several researchers will be engaged in a competition aimed at checking whether present knowledge, and what type of knowledge, allow to successfully perform class A predictions.

The IWL will follow a Mediterranean Workshop on Landslides focused on the topic of “Landslides in Hard Soils and Weak Rocks” (October, 21 and 22, 2013). This will offer a good opportunity to hear from people living on the Mediterranean Sea about their problems and solutions.
Once again, the registration expenses will be low in order to allow as many people as possible to attend and lively participate in the two events and initiatives.
Therefore, we cordially invite all people fond of slope stability and landslide problems to attend and participate in the two meetings.
