Le Monde vu du Train repart à la chasse aux transports vapeur ! 🚂🌫️Direction une nouvelle aventure ferroviaire en Asie. Toujours à l’est… mais un peu moins loin que notre grande expédition de mars dernier.S’il existait une “to do list” des passionnés de trains vapeur, celui-ci figurerait sans hésiter tout en haut : le mythique Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, plus connu sous les noms de Darjeeling Train… ou Toy Train.Le voyage débutera par un long vol vers New Delhi, suivi d’une escale nocturne de trois heures avant un second vol vers Kolkata. Nous y passerons deux jours et demi à jouer les touristes, à découvrir cette immense ville bouillonnante et son atmosphère unique.Puis viendra un petit saut de puce aérien vers Siliguri — hélas, le train ne circule pas le dimanche — point de départ de notre périple ferroviaire.
Côté météo, le voyage promet aussi un grand écart thermique : entre 31 et 38°C dans la fournaise de Kolkata… puis une ambiance bien plus respirable avec 22 à 25°C du côté de Darjeeling. Mais attention : la région est aussi célèbre pour ses brumes omniprésentes. Elles peuvent transformer les paysages en décor de cinéma… comme elles peuvent décider de cacher totalement les montagnes pendant plusieurs jours ! C’est aussi ce qui fait tout le charme — et toute l’incertitude — de cette ligne mythique.
À partir de là, place à la montagne.Train et/ou voiture se relaieront pour remonter la célèbre ligne jusqu’à Darjeeling, au cœur des brumes de l’Himalaya.Cerise sur le gâteau : un train spécial marchandises effectuera plusieurs allers-retours spécialement pour nos objectifs. Le Monde vu du Train is heading back on the hunt for steam transport! 🚂🌫️This time, a brand new railway adventure awaits us in Asia. Still eastbound… but not quite as far as our major expedition last March.If there were a “must-do list” for steam train enthusiasts, this one would undoubtedly sit right at the top: the legendary Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, better known as the Darjeeling Train… or the Toy Train.The journey will begin with a long-haul flight to New Delhi, followed by a three-hour overnight layover before a second flight to Kolkata. We will spend two and a half days there playing tourists, discovering this huge bustling city and its unique atmosphere.Then comes a short domestic flight to Siliguri — sadly, the train does not run on Sundays — which will mark the true starting point of our railway adventure.Weather-wise, the trip will also bring a dramatic contrast: temperatures between 31 and 38°C in the furnace-like heat of Kolkata… followed by a far more pleasant 22 to 25°C around Darjeeling. But beware: the region is also famous for its ever-present mist and fog. They can turn the landscapes into movie scenes… or completely hide the mountains for days at a time!
