The transportation and warehousing industry is bigger than previously reported.

New Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates show the sector had approximately 135,100 more workers in March 2026 than earlier data suggested. While the exact impact on trucking is still unknown, the update highlights the size and importance of the workforce keeping America’s freight moving.

FREIGHT MARKET UPDATE

The freight market eased slightly this week, but conditions remain considerably stronger than they were a year ago.

• Load posts decreased 6.1% week over week but remain 35.1% higher year over year.
• Truck posts increased 1.7% week over week but are still 25.8% lower year over year.
• The load-to-truck ratio declined from 40.07 to 36.97 but remains well above last year’s 20.31.

While freight demand cooled from last week, the market remains tighter than it was this time last year. With more loads competing for fewer available trucks, dependable equipment, professional drivers and proactive planning remain essential.

The trucking community joins millions around the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton.

Just two months ago, Dolly opened Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop—a place created to welcome professional drivers, families and travelers along Interstate 65. It was a fitting final addition to the legacy of a woman who spent much of her life on the road and never forgot the hardworking people she met along the way.

All of us at Southern Haulers extend our deepest condolences to Dolly’s family, friends and fans. Her music, generosity and Tennessee spirit will continue to inspire generations.

Rest in peace, Dolly. 🤍

Georgia’s ports are continuing to see significant growth, creating more opportunities across the Southeast supply chain.

Port of Savannah – July Highlights
• Exports increased 7.7% year over year
• Imports increased 5%
• Total container volume reached 503,739 TEUs, up 5.7%
• Nearly 15,000 truck transactions per day
• Average truck turn time: 31 minutes for a single move

The Appalachian Regional Port in Crandall, GA, handled an all-time high of 4,800 containers in July, a 41% increase over July 2025.

The ARP also finished FY2026 with a record 49,319 containers, nearly 20% higher than the previous year.

For trucking and logistics providers, continued growth at Savannah and the Appalachian Regional Port means stronger connectivity and increased demand for reliable transportation services throughout Georgia and the Southeast.

With continued investment in infrastructure, rail connectivity, and port capacity, Georgia is positioning itself for even more supply chain growth.
