The WW&F Railway Museum celebrates Maine's Sheepscot Valley narrow gauge, which operated from 1894 until 1933. The remnants, stories, and memories from the railway of big dreams and little wheels inspire today's volunteers to recreate and share them by restoring, preserving, and operating an authentic heritage railroad. Today’s WW&F was founded in 1989 and operates steam trains along 3.5 miles of

reconstructed railroad. Opportunities are offered to those of any age and ability for learning new skills; discovering what was required to operate a railroad a century ago. Passengers on the WW&F gain insight into the social and economic impact of railroads upon the community through the experience of a steam train ride, visiting interesting and enlightening destinations such as SeaLyon Farm and exploration of a recreated railyard. The museum strives to be an integral part of the fabric of Midcoast Maine through unique partnerships and events with local businesses, non-profit organizations, artists and schools. Open year round, the museum transports thousands of guests each year to a simpler time to experience authentic Maine.

Sunday Backward Glance 74 - Twenty five years ago, Bob Cavanagh took this photo of engine 10 at Sheepscot Station with engineman Dana Deering in the cab and fireman Bob Longo standing next to the door. At this time the engine still had the Edaville stack and original cab. James Patten had lettered the tender just a week earlier.

Finish COACH 9 to the NINES! - June 2026 Update

So far, we have covered the exterior and interior of coach 9. Let’s now turn our attention to what the coach will be sitting on, its trucks. Click the photos for details.

Meanwhile, we are excited to announce that we are rapidly closing in on our goal of raising $120,000 to Finish Coach 9 to the Nines thanks to a $25,000 gift in memory of a recently passed supporter. Help put us over the top at https://wwfry.org/coach9/

Morse Engine House - Little projects are still being done in the building. Here, an old warehouse shelf has been installed on the back wall to hold a group of recently donated oilers. Engine house foreman Roger Whitney has already claimed one for #10 when it goes back in service. Photo from Thursday, June 4th 2026.
