🌳 Did you know? Trimming and pruning trees may look simple, but there’s a lot of careful consideration before every cut! When we assess a property for pruning, we check for crossing branches, weak unions, and deadwood, while ensuring proper light and airflow within the yard.

Every cut serves a purpose. It’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about preventing future issues by removing potential hazards while preserving the tree's natural structure. Remember, overpruning can stress trees just as much as neglecting them, so finding balance is key!

For many properties in Metro East, late summer to fall is an ideal time to address any deadwood or structural problems before winter adds more stress. It’s a smaller job than a full removal, but it can save your tree down the line.

When was the last time you had a professional closely inspect the trees on your property? 🌲

Riverbend Outdoor Services started as a small, family-owned operation back in 2007, and that's still exactly what it is today. We haven't grown into some big regional outfit chasing volume. We've grown by doing right by the same families and neighborhoods, year after year.

A lot of our work now comes from repeat customers and referrals in Moro, Bethalto, Godfrey, and the surrounding towns. That kind of trust doesn't happen overnight. It happens because someone had a good experience the first time and called us again for the next job, or told a neighbor to.

Our tagline is that we aim to turn every first-time call into a long-term partnership, and it's not just something we put on a sign. It's the whole reason the business is still locally operated after all these years.

Have you worked with the same local tree company more than once? What made you go back to them?

Ever notice a tree with two trunks growing side by side from roughly the same spot, like a big V shape? That's called a codominant trunk, and it's one of the more overlooked hazards we run into on Metro East properties.

The problem shows up where those two trunks meet. Instead of forming solid wood, bark can get trapped in that seam, a condition called included bark. It looks fine from the outside for years, but that seam is structurally weaker than a normal branch union and can split without much warning, especially in wind or heavy snow load.

The best way to check is to look at the angle where the trunks meet. A tight, narrow V is more concerning than a wide, open U shape. If you're not sure what you're looking at, that's exactly the kind of thing worth having a second set of eyes on.

Do you have a tree on your property with two trunks or major limbs splitting close together near the base?

Thank you Linda, we really appreciate your five-star review. We're glad our team left your yard spotless and protected your landscaping while removing the trees. Thank you for calling out that we are a different company than the similarly named one and for trusting our equipment and workmanship. We appreciate the recommendation and look forward to helping you or your neighbors again in the future.

A lot of tree companies stop once the cutting is done. At Riverbend Outdoor Services, the job isn't finished until the yard looks better than it did before we showed up, and that's where our Green Waste Hauling service comes in.

Brush, logs, and debris get loaded and hauled out the same day in most cases, so families in Moro, Bethalto, Edwardsville, and Alton aren't left staring at a pile of limbs for a week. It's a small thing, but it's the kind of detail that turns a first-time call into a repeat customer.

We treat every property like we're going to be back on it again, because more often than not, we are. Clear communication up front and a clean site when we leave are just part of how we operate.

Have you ever had a contractor leave debris behind after a job? What made you decide whether you'd call them again?

Did you know? Not every large tree removal needs a crane, but understanding when it does can save homeowners from surprises on job day!

A crane is typically necessary when a tree is too large or too close to structures for safe removal, or when the drop zone is tight enough that pieces must be lifted out instead of lowered. While it adds cost and logistics, coordinating street access and possibly a permit, it's often the safest and fastest option.

We guide homeowners through this decision before finalizing estimates to ensure there are no surprises regarding equipment or costs.

Have you ever had a tree removed that required a crane, or wondered if yours might? Share your experience below! 👇

Every member of the Riverbend Outdoor Services crew completes chainsaw safety certification before they're climbing or cutting on a job site, no exceptions.

It's a standard that goes beyond just knowing how to run the saw, it covers proper positioning, escape routes, and how to handle a tree under tension safely.

For a family-owned crew that's been building its reputation since 2007, that kind of consistency is what keeps every job, from a small trim to a full removal, running the same safe way.

What would you want to know about a crew's training before they got to work on your property?

A tree's root flare, the point where the trunk widens out into the roots, is supposed to sit right at ground level.

When a tree gets planted too deep or mulch keeps getting piled up against the trunk over the years, that flare ends up buried, and the tree can develop roots that girdle itself or a trunk that stays too wet.

It's a slow problem. A buried root flare doesn't kill a tree overnight, but it shortens its life and makes it more vulnerable to disease and instability.

We see this a lot on trees planted by builders or landscapers years ago who didn't account for how much the tree would settle.

Do you know if the trees on your property were planted with the root flare visible, or is it buried under soil or mulch?
