Classes of License and Commercial Learner's Permits (CLP)

Did you know that since April 1, 1992, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) has been required for those who wish to operate certain Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs)? The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) sets standards for State testing and licensing of CDL holders, ensuring that only those who pass knowledge and skills tests are able to operate CMVs.

It's important to note that drivers who operate in interstate, intrastate, or foreign commerce must obtain and hold a CDL if they drive a vehicle that meets one or more of the classifications of a CMV. And to avoid restrictions, drivers should take the skills test in the same type of vehicle they want to operate with their CDL. To learn the 's rule, please visit https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration/commercial-drivers-license/drivers -Restrictions

Drivers have been required to have a commercial driver's license (CDL) in order to drive certain commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) since April 1, 1992. The types of vehicles and operations requiring a CDL are outlined below. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has developed and is...

Intermodal Truckers Strike a Victory Against Ocean Carriers

Intermodal Truckers Celebrate a Huge Win! Judge Erin Wirth from the Federal Maritime Commission has ruled that exclusive agreements between ocean carriers and chassis providers violate the U.S. Shipping Act in certain regions. FMCSA has Removed TMS ONE’s ELD ONE Device from List of Registered ELDs

The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has taken action against ELD One. Effective January 31, 2023, ELD One has been removed from the list of registered Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) and placed on the Revoked Devices list.

The FMCSA has cited the company’s failure to meet the minimum requirements established in 49 CFR part 395, subpart B, appendix A as the reason for this removal. If you are currently using ELD One devices, it is important to take the following steps:

**Discontinue use of the revoked device(s) and switch to paper logs or logging software for recording hours of service data.
**Replace the revoked device(s) with compliant ELD(s) from the Registered Devices list by April 4, 2023.

Motor carriers have up to 60 days to make the switch to a compliant ELD. If the ELD provider addresses all identified deficiencies, the FMCSA will place the device back on the list of registered devices and inform the industry and the field.
