Sometimes you don’t realize how much you needed to be in a certain room until you’re there.

Last week, I attended Engage at the Cobb Chamber of Commerce for new members, and I walked away feeling more motivated than I had in a while.

I met other people who are also building businesses, trying to make connections, figuring things out as they go, and looking for ways to grow.

It was nice being around people who could relate to that part of the journey.

I also didn’t realize how many resources the Cobb Chamber has available to support businesses. I left with new information, new connections, and quite a few things I want to explore.

Building a business can sometimes feel like you’re trying to figure everything out on your own. That afternoon reminded me that there are communities and resources available—you just have to be willing to show up and take advantage of them.

I needed that reminder.

I left feeling encouraged, reenergized, and ready to keep going. 💙

I've had to remind myself of something lately:

**Just because something hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't happen.**

I'm someone who likes to make a plan, put in the work, and see progress. But building a business doesn't always work that way.

Sometimes you do the work and don't immediately see the results.

And that's where patience comes in—which, I'll admit, can be a challenge. 😂

I'm learning that taking a step back doesn't mean I'm giving up.

Sometimes I need to look at things differently, change my approach, and try another route.

What I don't want to do is become so focused on one way of getting there that I miss another opportunity right in front of me.

So that's where I am right now.

Taking my time.

Trying some different approaches.

Continuing to learn.

And reminding myself that **"not yet" and "not possible" are two very different things.**

I don't know exactly which road will get me where I want to go.

One thing I've learned about myself is that I need time where I'm not responsible for anyone or anything.

For most of my career, I've been in roles where someone needed something from me.

At the bedside, it was my patients.

As an Assistant Nurse Manager, it was my team.

In case management and transitions of care, there was always another problem to solve or something that needed to be coordinated.

As an instructor, I'm thinking about my students and how I can help them become better nurses.

And now, as a business owner, there's always something I could be working on. 😂

That's probably one of the reasons I enjoy walking my trails so much.

When I'm out there, I don't have to be the nurse, the instructor, the entrepreneur, or the person figuring out what needs to happen next.

I can just walk.

Some days I think through things. Other days I enjoy the trees, the quiet, and whatever playlist I'm listening to.

I've learned that I need those moments.

Not because I'm trying to be productive.

Not because there's a goal attached to them.

But because sometimes I just need time to feed my soul, clear my mind, and simply be. 🌿

And I've become much more intentional about making room for that.

Last week marked the end of another clinical semester.

As we reflected on the semester together, a few students shared something that meant more to me than they probably realized.

They told me this was their favorite clinical rotation.

They said they learned so much.

But the comment that stayed with me the most was:

"I finally feel like an actual nurse."

That reminded me why I love teaching.

My goal has never been to simply teach students how to complete skills or pass a clinical.

It's to help them develop the confidence, critical thinking, and communication they'll carry with them throughout their nursing careers.

Watching that transformation—from uncertainty on the first day to believing in themselves by the last—is one of the greatest privileges of being a nurse educator.

I'm grateful I had the opportunity to be a small part of their journey, and I can't wait to welcome the next group of future nurses. 💙

Sometimes we focus so much on reaching the next goal that we forget to appreciate how far we've already come.

This year has challenged me in ways I didn't expect.

I've continued teaching future nurses, started building a healthcare business, attended networking events that pushed me outside my comfort zone, and met incredible people along the way.

Not every step has been easy, but every step has been worth taking.

I'm learning that growth doesn't always happen through big milestones. Sometimes it happens one conversation, one opportunity, and one act of courage at a time.

I'm excited to see where this journey leads next. 💙

Today, our Health Assessment students participated in simulation activities designed to help bridge classroom learning and patient care.

Simulation provides students with an opportunity to practice assessment skills, communication, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making in a safe learning environment.

It's one thing to learn concepts in a lecture or textbook. It's another to apply them in real-time scenarios.

One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is watching students gain experience, ask questions, and begin making connections between what they've learned and how they'll care for future patients.

Every experience helps build the foundation for the nurses they will become. 💙

One thing I didn't realize when starting a business is how much nursing would prepare me for entrepreneurship.

As nurses, we're constantly problem-solving, adapting, communicating, and finding solutions when things don't go as planned.

I've found myself relying on those same skills while building Health & Essential Routing Solutions.

One lesson this journey continues to teach me is patience.

There are so many things that happen behind the scenes that people never see.

The networking.

The meetings.

The outreach.

The planning.

The learning.

Sometimes it can feel like you're putting in a lot of work without seeing immediate results.

But I've learned that every conversation, every connection, and every step forward is helping build something bigger.

Just like in nursing, growth doesn't happen overnight.

It takes consistency, persistence, and a willingness to keep showing up.

I'm grateful for the lessons I've learned along the way and excited to see where this journey leads.

One thing I've been emphasizing with my nursing students is the importance of thorough assessments and good charting.

I tell them all the time that assessing your patient early in the shift is one of the most important things you can do. It helps establish a baseline and allows you to recognize changes throughout the day.

This week, I've seen a noticeable improvement compared to last week.

Students are becoming more detailed in their assessments, asking better questions, and beginning to understand how assessment findings connect to the overall picture of the patient's health.

They're also realizing that charting isn't just documentation—it's a way to communicate the patient's story and support safe patient care.

As an instructor, it's rewarding to watch those connections start to click.

I'm proud of the progress they've made in just one week and look forward to seeing their continued growth throughout the semester. 💙

Last week, my third-semester nursing students started Adult Health clinicals.

One of the first things we discuss before entering a patient’s room is that nursing at the bedside doesn’t always look exactly like nursing in a textbook.

In Health Assessment, students learn a very detailed head-to-toe assessment.

At the bedside, they begin learning something just as important:

How to prioritize.

How to recognize when a finding requires a more focused assessment.

How to explain medications in terms a patient can understand.

How to ask permission before providing care.

How to build trust with someone they’ve just met.

The science of nursing is important.

But so is the human side.

One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is watching students connect what they’ve learned in the classroom to the person sitting in front of them.

That’s when nursing starts becoming more than information.

It starts becoming practice.
