Please indulge me for a few moments.
Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Crawford, my pastor, shared a message on this past Sunday. In that message he spoke of his first voting experience. He spoke of how his grandfather couldn’t read or write so his grandfather did not vote until age 77. At this point Dr. Crawford accompanied him to the polls. Grandfather came home from work, took a shower, put on his best suit and hat, made Dr. Crawford do the same, then marched down to the polls with pride in the facts (A) he was going to VOTE and that despite life’s hurdles, and (B) he was able to live long enough to see an educated grandson.
Black folk, women, Hispanics, Haitians, and all other minorities: Our ancestors fought and died for us to have VOTING ACCESS. We should never take that for granted! Some of us know people who have NEVER voted.
It doesn’t matter if you support me or one of my opponents, this morning, please take the time to go to vote. In Georgia, your employer MUST allow you the time off to vote. Some employers will allow you that time with pay, just ask. This primary election has so many ballot proposal measures that affect the lives of minorities. We should have no choice but to vote. Some things I’ve spoken of on the campaign trail is on the ballot including votes to repeal restrictive women’s rights bills and an effort to repeal the school voucher program. This election is so much bigger than me. I beg you, PLEASE GO VOTE!
