💰🚛💰SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY 💰🚛💰
LMTA Foundation & LCTCS Commit to Improving Transportation Workforce with New Scholarship
LMTA's $100,000 commitment will assist students in pursuit of a CDL
Baton Rouge, La. – The Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA) Foundation and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) Foundation have come together to make an impactful commitment to workforce education in Louisiana. LMTA Foundation's $100,000 pledge in support of the "LMTA Foundation Scholarship program" will provide current and prospective students greater access to training programs related to transportation and logistics. The program, which is intended to assist students in pursuit of a Commercial Driver's License, will also lead to valuable skills necessary in the trucking and logistics industry. The scholarship will be awarded to eligible applicants in the amount of $5,500 toward tuition and fees for the spring 2022 semester.
The trucking industry is one of several facing an unprecedented shortage of workers. Programs like the LMTA Foundation Scholarship program are built to be win-win opportunities for businesses seeking employees and unemployed or underemployed people looking to enter the workforce.
“Truckers have faced a critical shortage of workers over the last decade and the pandemic has only exacerbated that problem, especially for tank truck drivers," said Tom O’Neal, LMTA Foundation Board Chair and Owner of Hercules Transport. "We are excited to be partnering with LCTCS to provide scholarships for much-needed trucking jobs that will provide opportunities for these students to provide a great life for their family. Truckers are crucial to fulfilling the needs of every Louisianan, so filling this workforce need will help to make the state’s economy stronger."
To receive the scholarship, students must have participated in a minimum eight (8) hour ride along with a trucking company and must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a Transportation and Logistics program with an emphasis on CDL programs at an LCTCS college.
Students interested in applying for the scholarship may do so by visiting this link https://lctcsfoundation.awardspring.com/ and using their LOLA login credentials.
