Oren's Transit Page 10,000+ photos and information about public transportation systems from around the world

Oren's Transit Page features photos of trains and buses from all across the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, and the Middle East. It is a labor of love that allows me to share my combined interests in transportation, traveling, and photography with the rest of the world. I believe this is one of the largest websites of its kind to be entirely in English, include coverage of so many di

fferent countries and cities, and displays the work of a single photographer. In addition, Oren's Transit Page is home to the unofficial Jerusalem Bus Map, which was started in August 2009, and in the 15 year absence of an official printed bus map, has become one of the most trusted sources for navigating the transit system in Jerusalem, Israel.

: in 1972, the first R44 cars entered service in the system.

Originally designed for high speeds to allow for swift travel along the Second Avenue Subway, an R44 broke the world speed record for a train car on January 31, 1972 with a speed of 87.75 mph.

While the majority of the R44 subway cars operating in the NYC subway system were retired due to structural issues, the remaining R44s were overhauled between 2007 and 2010 to operate on the Staten Island Railway. These have all finally been replaced by R211S cars, as of September 2025.

We currently have an R44 car on display in the in Downtown Brooklyn. In 2025, Chappell Roan filmed the music video for her song "The Subway" on the Museum's R44. Plan your visit at nytransitmuseum.org.

On this date in 1976, the first segment of the Washington Metro opened, serving 5 stations along 4.2 miles of track. About 51,000 people ride the Red Line for free on this first day; the first revenue service day is two days later on Monday, March 29. Fifty years later, Metrorail has expanded to six lines serving 98 stations along nearly 130 miles of track.

Happy birthday Metrorail and congratulations on reaching this impressive milestone!
