5/31/26: My guys and I loaded a 26-foot U-Haul truck today for a move going from Hartville, Ohio to Tampa, Florida. I took this photo when the truck was about 90% loaded. We still had to load two couches, two beds, a dining room table, two living room chairs, and seven smaller chairs.
In case anyone is wondering, that large safe weighs 500 pounds. After the photo was taken, I used thick cardboard to surround the safe to protect it. Normally I load all of the heavy stuff forward, closest to the cab. For this move, I made the decision to load the safe toward the back for easier on and off. And this is not an issue at all for such a large and new truck with excellent suspension. Lastly, the bench in the photo fit perfectly in that spot and did not need to be wrapped. Items were placed in front of it that kept it in place and protected it.
The customer was concerned whether all of her items would fit. I Tetrised like a demon and it was close, but ultimately we were able to get every item on board. All of the boxes and bins are properly stacked and packed tight, and every item was protected properly. For certain furniture items and other fragile items, I used quilted blankets. The Uhaul blankets sufficed for the other items but I did use two Uhaul blankets on a couple of items for extra protection.
Even with lots of wrapping and disassembly of two beds and a table, we finished in 4 hours, 45 minutes. All items were loaded damage-free, and no damage to the property. π
I'll take some photos of the unload down in Bradenton and post them when I get back home. Weather forecast for Tampa for the unload: 85 degrees and mostly cloudy.
