🇺🇸 One Perfect Afternoon on the National Mall 🇺🇸

If you only have a few hours in Washington, D.C., here’s an itinerary I recommend. It’s one of the most meaningful walks you can take in the United States, combining history, beautiful scenery, and some of our nation’s most iconic landmarks.

Stop 1: Washington Monument
Standing 555 feet tall, the Washington Monument is the world’s tallest stone obelisk and honors our nation’s first president, George Washington. If you reserve tickets in advance, you can ride the elevator to the top for sweeping views of the National Mall, the White House, and the U.S. Capitol.

Stop 2: World War II Memorial
As you walk toward the Lincoln Memorial, take time to explore the World War II Memorial. Its 56 granite pillars represent the U.S. states and territories that supported the war effort, while the fountains create a peaceful place to reflect.

Stop 3: Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
Just a short walk away, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial features the striking 30-foot “Stone of Hope” sculpture carved from white granite. One of the memorial’s most memorable features is the collection of Dr. King’s inspiring quotes etched into the surrounding walls, reminding visitors of his message of equality, justice, and hope.

Stop 4: Lincoln Memorial
One of America’s most recognizable landmarks, the Lincoln Memorial is home to a 19-foot-tall marble statue of Abraham Lincoln. Standing on its steps, you’ll be at the very place where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech during the 1963 March on Washington. The view across the Reflecting Pool toward the Washington Monument is especially breathtaking at sunset.

Stop 5: Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Just a few minutes away is one of the most emotional stops on the National Mall. More than 58,000 names of U.S. service members who were killed or remain missing during the Vietnam War are engraved into the polished black granite wall. Visitors from around the world leave flowers, medals, flags, and handwritten notes in remembrance of those who served.

✨ Travel Tip: If your schedule allows, visit in the evening. The monuments are beautifully illuminated, temperatures are cooler, and the crowds are much lighter. It’s a completely different atmosphere after dark. If you’re looking for something a little more “off the beaten path, check out the kayak tours of the monuments!

There are dozens of incredible memorials throughout the National Mall, but this route offers a meaningful introduction to the history, sacrifice, and ideals that have shaped our nation.

❤️ Which memorial would you want to see first? 🇺🇸

Have you heard about the hotel where the DUCKS are the celebrities?

At The Peabody Memphis, one of the most beloved hotel traditions in America doesn’t involve afternoon tea, a fancy cocktail or even a celebrity guest…

It involves DUCKS. 🦆🦆🦆

The tradition began in 1933, when the hotel’s general manager and a friend returned from a hunting trip and jokingly placed their live duck decoys in the hotel’s fountain.

Guests absolutely loved them and a Memphis tradition was born.

Today, the Peabody Ducks live in their own rooftop “Royal Duck Palace.” 👑🦆

Every morning at 11:00 AM, the ducks leave their rooftop home, ride the elevator down and — with the Duckmaster leading the way — march along a red carpet through the lobby to the hotel’s fountain.

Then at 5:00 PM, they do it all over again in reverse, marching out of the fountain, down the red carpet and back to the elevator for their trip home.

And people actually line the lobby to watch!

Even better? Watching the Peabody Duck March is FREE, so you don’t have to be staying at the hotel to experience it.

It’s quirky.
It’s adorable.
It’s been happening for more than 90 years.
And it’s exactly the kind of little travel experience I LOVE finding when I’m visiting a new city.

So…if you’re ever in Memphis, Tennessee, don’t just go for the barbecue and Beale Street. Go see the ducks. 🦆❤️

You know how every artist has those songs you just HAVE to hear?
Destinations do too.

The iconic sights. The foods you have to try. The experiences worth planning around. And those places that make you think, “Okay… NOW I understand why everyone comes here.”

So every couple of weeks, I’m putting together the Greatest Hits of some of my favorite destinations around the world. 🌎

First stop:

🇮🇪 GREATEST HITS: IRELAND

If Ireland had a greatest hits album, these would definitely make the track list.

🏰 Stay in an Irish castle- Because seeing one is cool. Sleeping in one is better.

🍺 Have a Guinness in Dublin- Bonus points if you learn how to pour the perfect pint at the Guinness Storehouse.

🌊 Stand on the Cliffs of Moher- One of those places that photographs beautifully and somehow looks even better in person.

🚗 Drive the Ring of Kerry- Tiny villages, dramatic coastline, mountains, castles and plenty of places where you’ll want to pull over.

🎻 Spend an evening in an Irish pub- Find a traditional music session, order something to drink and stay awhile.

🐑 Explore the Irish countryside- Green fields, stone walls, sheep and those ridiculously narrow roads that make the adventure even more memorable.

🦪 Eat your way through Galway- Fresh seafood, oysters, pubs and one of my favorite atmospheres in Ireland.

🏞️ See the Wild Atlantic Way- Rugged coastline, little seaside towns and some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.

Ireland isn’t a destination where I would want to rush from attraction to attraction. Some of its greatest hits are the little pubs, conversations, scenic drives and unexpected stops along the way.

What would be YOUR first stop in Ireland? 🇮🇪

Another destination, another certification! 🌴🇰🇳

I’m excited to share that I’ve officially earned my St. Kitts Travel Pro certification through the St. Kitts Tourism Board!

I love continuing my education because it helps me give my clients better recommendations, insider tips, and confidence that they’re getting advice from someone who invests in knowing the destinations they sell.

From beautiful beaches and lush rainforests to historic sites, scenic railway adventures, and authentic Caribbean culture, St. Kitts is a destination that’s full of unforgettable experiences.

If St. Kitts has been on your travel wish list—or you’d like to learn whether it’s the right Caribbean island for your next getaway—I’d love to help you plan it!

🚢 Cruising into the Weekend: Ask the Travel Agent

❓Q: I want to book a Caribbean cruise, but it will be hurricane season. Should I?

A: Absolutely—you don’t have to avoid cruising just because it’s hurricane season.

One of the biggest advantages of a cruise is flexibility. Cruise lines closely monitor tropical weather and work with meteorologists around the clock. If a hurricane is expected to affect your itinerary, they’ll often adjust the route, change the order of ports, substitute different ports, or, if necessary, skip a port altogether to keep guests and crew safe.

In many cases, your vacation still happens—you may simply visit different destinations than originally planned.

If you’d rather reduce the chance of itinerary changes, consider Southern Caribbean cruises that visit Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. These beautiful islands sit outside the traditional hurricane belt and are among the most popular choices during hurricane season.

No matter when you travel, I also recommend protecting your investment with travel insurance, especially during hurricane season.

Have a travel question you’ve been wondering about? Drop it in the comments—you might see it featured in the next Cruising into the Weekend: Ask the Travel Agent! 🌴⚓
