Why?

OTR drivers — watch out for this red flag.

If a trucking company hires you as a company driver but expects you to pay your own travel to orientation upfront, that should raise some questions.

Most reputable carriers will book and pay for your travel (bus, flight, or rental) and hotel because they’re investing in bringing you on.

When a company asks drivers to cover those costs first, it can be a sign of:
• Poor finances
• High driver turnover
• Or a company not willing to invest in their drivers

Good companies know drivers are the backbone of the operation. If they can’t cover the trip to orientation, you have to ask yourself what else they won’t cover later. 🚩

Recruiters might promise great miles, home time, bonuses, and top pay. But if it’s not in writing, it can change once you’re already out on the road.

Pay per mile, detention pay, home time, equipment — all of it should be documented.

A solid trucking company won’t have a problem putting the offer in writing.

If they won’t write it down, that’s your red flag. 🚩
